Need some advice. I am building a 32 ford highboy with a mild sbc. I see cars running zip,s high raiser water pumps for better cooling. I want a cooling running engine here in the south, but to dish out $250 for one one these hurts the wallet. I will if it will prevent over heating. What do you guys think?

  2. How fat is your wallet? Lots of old jalopies have run without them but if your wallet will sustain it why not?

another option is to run an electric fan.

I have one on the 265 in my 32 two door. So far so good. The stock set up puts the w/p & fan way down low. The fan has to be real small too. I'm putting one on a 241 Red Ram Dodge Hemi. We'll see how that goes.

  5. Run a quick search, this has been covered many times and there is a ton of good tech on them. I found a used one from a HAMBer here.

The main purpose of running one is that it places the water pump higher so you can runa decent size mechanical fan. You are limited to a small diameter fan or electric fan with the stock water pump location.

If only the search function worked on this forum you could find the post where a guy made his own
The only cost was for the 6 cylinder water pump

There is another company that makes a high rise water pump, Snow White. Have used the one they make successfully a couple of times. They have a web site.

I think they are worth the money, just to have a mechanical fan. I'm not one for electrical **** hanging on my radiator. I run one on my roadster with a slightly warmed ZZ4 and it works great along with a Walker radiator.

You MUST be reading some old threads ...
I have not even posted 20 times total in the last week :)

Folks keep asking about the ZIPS ... and not using the search function ...
