Working on a deal with a guy where I may be trading my **' Vette for a '56 Desoto Sportsman. I don't know much of anything about Desoto except that it was a division of Chrysler, the car is a 2dr hardtop, and a hemi/automatic. I'd like to do a mild custom. Any knowledge any of you want to share will be greatly appreciated. I'd like to know about the engine, what interchanges, ect. I'd like to find a 2x4 intake or something like that. Anything to look out for? Thanks- John
If you plan on going beyond stock and are looking for an increase in performance, I would stick a 727 trans in it for starts. Besides the weight loss, it will be more fun to drive. I had a 56 Firedome years ago. Ran like crazy up to 120 MPH, but getting out of the hole was embarassing! Just my opinion, Bill
During my online search-A-thon I found the adapter to run the newer trans. Will it work with an overdrive tranny? I know the 727 but don't know Dodges interchangeability very well. It said it worked with the 727 and 518. Definetly something I'd be interested in looking into, if I get the car I'll be wanting to drive it alot, the newer tranny would be nice. Now to read the Hemi tech....thanks guys. -John
Holy crap.....I think I can find anything ever known about Hemis in that thread! I'll be reading for a loooong while. Thanks! -John
