Went to the salvage yard over lunch, and stopped in my tracks to this. I just stood there and stared for a good five minutes. Looks to be early 60's to me. I think I need it in my yard.

Surprised the radiator didn't melt. The alternator did.

I noticed the steering box was similar to my 50 chev. Suprised they ran that style that long.

Actually the 50's Corvettes had very similar components to the Coupes and Sedans.

My '62 vette has nearly identical front suspension compared to my 1950 Fleetline. They share a number of parts. The steering on the Corvette is slightly better. In 1963, the suspension finally was modernized front and rear.

The valve cover says 62 only if it is original to the car.

The whole front suspension unbolts and is basically the same as the 49-54 Chevy.

  19. And they didn't have disc brakes 'till '65. But fiber gl*** doesn't rust!

A swimming pool of vinegar will bring that right back - maybe not so much the plastic...

In case you're wondering why it looks like a cat shed all over it, those little white patches are the fibergl*** matting that doesn't burn up when they go. Just the resin makes a pretty hot fire though! NICE SET OF RAMHORNS THERE FOR SOMEONE STILL!

Takes about 10 minutes for a complete pristine Corvette to end up like this when a fire starts. Saw one go up on I-75 just south of Toledo about 2:00 AM several years ago. A rear caliper had locked up at his last stop but not enough that the wheel would not roll and the tire caught on fire from the heat. I was following the guy and as he pulled over to check "a strong odor" the fire wet from the tire to the body and when the fire department got there all that was left was the smoltering remains looking much like this example.

the bumper and the fibergl*** matt gave it away to me..

what a drag, fires and cars just dont mix, and with fibergl*** cars its even worse, it just keeps adding fuel to the fire

Radiator looks like a 61/62 vette. Most have been going really fast the rear wound up in the front. Go figure !!!!!

Looks like it's a little overbuffed.

The bar between the bumpers makes it a '61 or '62 Vette.

I sure hope that was a pile of **** before it burned. My 65 caught fire once and it was really hard to put out. Luckily, I did before it got too bad. Plastic burns quickly and hard to extinguish.
