Cool to see a young buck like yourself wanting to build a Pre-war hot rod. Let me know if I can help ya out.
So cool only 15.. Joe with all the parts and a new project you have lots to keep you busy..all the best Rod.
Yep, that's mine! Thank you very much for the compliment. I'm glad that at half my age you "get it." You have good vision, and are certainly on the right board. I can't wait to see your cars come together. That roadster is gonna be sweet! I have a set of 16"s as well, but it just looks right with the 19"s.... Well, it will look right when I drop the lid and pull a few leaves out of the springs! If you find yourself needing any pics, measurements, or information don't hesitate to shoot me a PM. Keep it up man!
At 15 your spending all you cash on old Ford ****.......you rule in my book. Are your sure your not related to Chris???
Joe you got the right ideas and above all keep it simple. Go for the look you seek and stay with it. Back in the days we didnt have any money but a lot of ideas and also limited on tools and equipment for the most so we had to figure a way to do it.I have a 29 roadster banger and its more fun than my street rods and when you done you will be amazed at all the fun and attention you will get. Good luck.
Joe.....Welcome to the wonderfull world of Hot Rodding! I got my start at about your age{i am now 68} Looks like you have a nice body and a great start. It's also great you have a "plan" and vision of your finished project. .....Congrads
Project is looking good!! I'd love to have either one of those!! But, I'm saticfied with my '48 I'm 15 too btw
update started getting the trans cleaned up, just s****ing off 81 years of dirt and grease, then it will get primed and and rattle can painted gloss black. I don't have internet at my house right now, so I will post pictures next time I'm at a wifi cafe.
dude thats going to be a sweet little coupe to have for a first car!!!!! i cant wait to see your progress
A pre-war hot rod is on my future to-do list. I wish I had gotten the HAMB sickness at a younger age like you. Keep up the good work! Subscribed. iPhone - TJJ App
I finally picked up my new roadster on monday! it was a very exiting day! unloaded it yesterday, got it into my shop. I've pretty much decided to build the roadster first, same style just a roadster body instead. I think its more correct, and now that I have one why not use it! here are some pics of getting it home
update yesterday I got the body off with help of my family. I started cleaning up the frame. The car was a 80's street rod, full fendered with 350, 12 bolt chevy rear. When it came to me it still had the rearend. I will be using a stock "a" rear. heres the pics
Joe, your well on your way to building some great cars. Have fun. So-Cal Tex your roadster is awesome! Do you have anymore pics? Do you go to any of the local car shows?
update...... kinda today I finally got some gas for my mig welder, which means I'll be able to work on repairing the frame. yesterday I bought a set of good '35 16 inchers for $10 each! I already have a set of 19''s with new tires that I will use until I can afford five 16'' bias plys. its not really much, but its what has been happening Joe
update I finally got my frame straight! A friend of ours( who has two model A's, a nice stocker coupe and a sedan project) is digging our new driveway with his backhoe, and suggested that we try straightening the the frame with it! The p***enger side rail was an inch higher than the other side at the front framehorn, which was pushed down easily with many tons of hydraulic force. We held the rearend of the frame down by putting 2x4s from the top of the rails to the low ceiling rafters. heres the pics
update I gave the frame and frontend a quickie paint job, and started putting pieces together. heres the pics p.s.: expect mockup pictures by the end of today
if you do decide to try and use the model "A" frame , you should at least box it in the central area for 10 - 15 inches forward and back from where the rear engine/trans mounted. (after you straighten it) those "A" frames are very weak there, and most i've had back when i was restoring my `31 roadster were bent there from the weight bouncing down bumpy roads. lay a straight edge or stretch a wire on the top of the frame rail, to check for flatness. i've seen many restored model "A's" with a gap at the bottom of the hood at the firewall/cowl, because the frame was bent there. and they didn't realize it untill the car was done. then tried to close the gap, with a spacer under the rear hood hindge bracket. <!-- / message -->
Joe.....Man, it's GREAT to see someone of your age doing it RIGHT!!! It seems that you have a well thought out plan and no compromises on parts selection. Fabbing up one off parts is great, but sourcing vintage parts and pieces and modifying them to work is where it's at. You're doing a great job...keep the progress pics coming
Gosh cool car man, I'm 17 and I feel like I wasted my time and money up to now. I wish I had half the luck you did and could find a clean A near me. Keep up the good work!
Great looking car and keep your focus.....you can look up the "B***" coupe also. Brian can truly work some metal Grommet
okay, here's the pics! I just got'r rolling, then a family friend came over and we put the body!!! I so stoked!!!!!!!!
Nice little project there man, should be pretty cool when it get done. i like the pre-war build idea, same way im going with my '31 pickup.
