I just found a 53 chevy 150 3 speed, all original barn find. what can I say the car is pertty solid except for the usual surface rust, but the floors and trunk are good, anyway I'm not looking to make any big changes but would like to have a good driver to work on part time instead of a full on resto. I have done that once and I know that once you start you can't stop one thing leads to another and before you know you have lots of $$$$ and years in it, your wife looks at it as a mistress and you are afraid to park it anywhere. My question is this I have access to a complete drive train from a 55 210, full oil pressure I think, a 235/ 3 speed and open drive shaft with 355 gears I think, without counting teeth. will all this bolt up to the 53' and will this be enough or is it just a change for change sake. later I will want to put in a S10 T5, maybe next summer. what do you guys think?
All will fit OK. The 55 water pump is longer. You might get a special one for this change over. The trans will come close to working. Rear mounts will be a small problem. Redrill the rear end spring pads to move the rear end back an inch. Column shift would be the hardest I think. I would hope your sure the 55 motor is good before you do all this. Reread your post. No it's not a bolt in but not bad.
325w is right water pump is longer but there is a vendor here on the HAMB that sells a brand new short shaft water pump that will work perfect. I got a 54 chevy and Im rebuilding and putting a 55 full pressure block in too
I could still use the 53' bell housing if the 55's has different mounts. Will the 55 3 speed work with the 53 bell?
53 trans has a different mounting pattern than the 55. You could use a truck bell housing I think. Having some CRS right now.
