Hey, How long between the time you shot your base & the time you shot your candy & did you use an inter clear with the candy? Were all of the products used in the top coats HOK brand? Cheap (inexpensive) clears, mixed with preminum finishes, no intercoat clear used with candy, or too long a flash time between your base coat & your sucessive candy & finish clears can all lead to this result " Humpty Dumpty was pushed "
Sorry, I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. Are you having trouble getting the clear to stick to the candy? Or is the clear chipping off the candy on a dry paint job? HOK's system depends on putting the urethanes on "wet-on-wet" to get the best adhesion. If you didn't put the coats on within the usual window of time, you might be getting delamination, as the coats didin't really stick to each other. That would make the clear chip easily. If this is the case, you really have a problem paint job. It will be very difficult to repair, though all candy touch ups aren't easy. If it is small area, you might try using HOK's adhesion promoter, instead of sanding the candy, and reapplying the clear. But if the problem is widespread, the clear will continue to chip whenever something hits it. If you are trying to clearcoat the candy after it's dried,, then you have a real problem. Again, you could try adhesion promoter, but it's taking a big chance. Might be worth it to sand it well, rebasecoat it, and re-candy it, but put the clear on when you are supposed to.
