You are correct about Willis Ragsdale's reputation!
Photo is of me driving my BG/S Henry-J at Green Valley's 1964 AHRA Nationals.
Ragsdale beat me in the Little Eliminator final.
He was "Da Man" in B/R in TX, LA & OK in the early to mid - '60's.
    Regards,
Glenn - in Louisiana (I will be 73 in 2 mnths)

7[1].jpg I've just passed page 500-I've sat in awe as I read the old stories and checked out the fantastic documentary on the History Of Drag Racing and have come to the conclusion that if I really want to make it to the end of this thing I'll have to quit my job and hire an intern. I want to give a special note of thanks to Royalshifter for starting this ball rolling and to Ryan for allowing it to pick up speed and reach cruising altitude. This thing is freakin' awesome...BTW, so far my favorite racecar name has to be a F/A called "Mental Cruelty" and my favorite picture has got to be Airborne Nanook..

Many of my fondest memories as a kid growing up in the '60s are that of going to National Trail Raceway with my Dad. In July 1967 if eight or more AA/D cars raced for Top Gas Eliminator $300 went to the winner, $100 to the runner-up, and $25 to round losers. Top speed of meet got $25. Like the radio commercial of the day exhorted, "Beeee There....Sundaaaaay"!

Am I the only one who noticed the 1/2 wheel studs on all the old funny cars? Must have been stronger steel back then. Today most ten second drag cars have big studs to keep the wheels on. Maybe back then if you WERE a big stud, you didn't need no stinkin big studs!

Rick, this is a great shot of the former Blue Hell vette at the "beach". Ronnie sold it to Gervase O'Neal who went on to build the very fast King Rat camaro. If anyone knows of where the vette is,please let me know.

  13. Mike,did I send you a photo of the Vette from 1982 ? DD

  17. Neat ad Smokey...BTW $4500 in 1963 dollars would be approximately equivalent to $33,194 today...

Yes Dennis, you did indeed send me this and many more "outasight" photos. Apparently someone may know of it's whereabouts. Would be a nice addition to a nostalgia event. Mike

Neat, who is Lynn's father? We often asked fans to assist us at tracks packing the chutes, mixing fuel and riding with us to the top end. It was a great way to get to know fans nationwide. No chances of that happening today. I will PM you soon. Thanks Mike
