i bought a 50 or 51 chevy coupe,,it had three peice rear glass,,and is missing two,,,,,the car next to it i didnt buy looked the same, but the rear fenders were almost level with the trunk lid,,,the one i bought the rear fenders curved down to the trunk lid(they peak higher than the other car) the seller didnt know which one was a 50 or which was the 51,,,also the one i bought has a round clock on the top of the dash,,,,,can anyone tell me if the one i bought is a 50 or a 51?
If you have a '50 Chevy hardtop Bel Air that car is the first in the Bel Air model line for Chevrolet. In the collectors lingo that car is a "Collector." If you give me the first four digits in theVIN number I can confirm this for you. Normbc9
A single large speedo-gauge panel is a 49-50; the 51-52 have a separate speedo and gauge cluster. The rear fenders on 49-50 have seams where they join the body; 51-52 are blended in. Sounds like you don't have a title to go with the car, good luck with that. Butch/56sedandelivery.
x2 on what 56sedandelivery said. My 50 styleline has the same dash and it has a square clock more towards the passenger side.
If you don't have any pictures to share with us, go to Google type in 50 Chevy and then hit images. Then change to 51 and compare. Not all the pictures that come up will be identified correctly but most of them will give you an idea of what you have. You can do the same thing with the dashboard. I learned to drive on a 51 but always wanted a 49-50 coupe.
This is my 1950 Styleline Special sedan dash. Your comment about the clock makes me think you have a '51.
Sounds like you have a 49-50 hardtop, 3 piece rear window is hardtop only, but this is true on all 49-50-51-52 hardtops..The best way for me to tell the difference is: 49-50 has round front park lamps-51-52 has rectangular or sargent stripe shaped front park lamps. Also as stated before 49-50 has a seam between the body on the rear fenders, some with stainless mouldings and the 51-52s, the rear fenders are made with the body or no seams, also they are a longer fender.
Round clock on the top of the dash would be a '51. No title could be a show-stopper. Not sure what year your car is... priceless (ok, I'm just honking on ya for that last one)
round clock is a 51 or 52 I think. Does it have a post between the door glass and the rear qtr glass.. sounds like a hardtop model.. which two rear glass pieces are you missing does the dash look like this
heres my 52 hardtop with a 51 grill... sounds like this is what you have.. sounds like a hardtop too if it has 3 pieces of glass...the car next to it..if it had level rear fenders, sounds like a 53 or 54 maybe.. hope this helps...
thanks all,,,,,,,,,it must be a 51 ,yes the other cars are for sale,,they are 50's and rusty. i need the middle and right side rear windows,,also the fronts are delaminating,,so those too,,,,,thanks, mitch,,,,,,,,,,,,,badluck,,,,its like yours,,,and i am drooling over it(yours) and boones
Also look for the tag on the firewall with the body style number, prefix (49-, 50-, 51- 52-) is the model year.
They have replacement glass for the hardtops.. cool car, you'll enjoy it http://stores.ebay.com/National-Che...15QQ_sidZ403229935QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322
thanks Boones.. its lowered with a 4-link in the rear and after market cross member up front.. the No Limit Air Glide system...
