you have to notch the two supports on the firewall for the V8 valve covers & remove the emergency brake for starters. And you might have to relocate the M.C. with the 700r

    Clutch,

If I was building it, I wouldn't use that 99 or any other 3rd or 4th gen rear. I would take the brakes off and find you a 81- back rearend. The 82- up rears are 7.5" ring gear and are weak. the brakes off it will just about bolt right on the 81- back 8.5" 10 bolt from a Camaro,Nova or a 73-77 chevelle/malibu. You have a stonger,Yet still C Clip rearend. Another good budget friendly choice is an 8.8 out of a mid 90 Ford Exploder. They are also rear disk. This is just MHO. I don't know how spirited you like to drive, But just throwing this info out there for you.

    Good luck with the 54,

    NF

What's the width of that rear end? I have this itch that it's too wide...

  9. I used all 78 camaro stuff under my 53. It is a bit wider than stock but if you get the right offset on your front wheels it looks like it grew that way.

(My rear end is '79 firebird. Same thing)

I'd love to find some disc brakes for it, but I'll probably just stick with the drums.

Just search "54 chevy", there are hundreds including mine from start to finish its a popular build here on the HAMB . To answer your question, yes trim the front supports like in the pic above you will have to make motor mounts and modify the tranny cross member. Coolant lines, trans cooler, throttle cable, and gauges . You may find the master cylnder is in the way, walton fab makes a great mount for the firewall. Good luck and post up some pics I love to see those 53/54's

This is how I shaved and re-braced the front body supports on the back side.
