Look what I got . . .Flathead industrial engine

    That flex tube may be the crankcase breather since it is coming from the lower right front corner of the engine, maybe was piped to the outside or into the exhaust pipe.

    Just tore down a late flattie that had been on an industrial pump. Bearings were worn to the copper and about to go, but it was perfect. No cracks. The water jackets are perfect and clean. The thing had apparently been very well maintained. Here's wishing you the same.

    Mine had an serial number plate on the back of the engine. Says Type 8RNN. If you ever figure out industrial codes, please drop me a line.

    BEWARE,,, on many engines,,,RAW water engines for marine and industrial uses often have very rusted/eroded cooolant p***sages in the heads and block,,,often at rebuild time,,,the blocks and heads are so rusted that they are too thin and are junk,,,

    Hopefully the old flat head had lots of cast iron to rust out,,,and you will not have any problems
