Great event. Steve Van Blarcom went 200 + a couple of times. A lakester went 240mph. Bill Warner went 311 mph on his motorcycle. Joe
Forgot to mention that there were 4 Studebakers entered ... one was cooler then the next ... Charles Venable went 188 mph with his C motor.
Damn, this makes me liking even more the utilization of the old B-52 base in Oscoda MI. for a land speed event. I'm sure it would result in a lot of activity in high speed compe***ion in the north central part of the US. Frank
I staged Andre a couple of times ... he is a real gentleman ... He had a hard starting issue and I had to move him off to keep the line moving and he was gracious. He got it resolved and I moved up to the front for his p***. White Studebaker ... 4 Studes at this one ... one cycle of the event they all in a row in staging ... really cool.
Wurtsmith...good idea, it has a very long runway, and not a lot of population around there to complain about the noise (flew out of there a couple of time in a B-52 long ago...)
Pretty sleek bike. Must be powerful, too. Thanks for the pic; we would, of course, appreciate any others you have...
Looks like a great time. I really wanted to try and get up there this year... When is the next event date?
311 on a sit on bike! Not HAMB friendly but who gives a damn. 311 freakin' mph!!!! Congratulations to Bill Warner!!!!
Congrats...Bill! Thanks for making Loring AFB, Limestone, Maine your 311mph playground! We are very happy and proud for you!
I wish I had time to take more pictures. I'm sure more will be posted. We Made 4 p***es on Saturday and at least that on Sunday. Also had a flat tire Sunday AM. How about it Laura? Where are your pictures?
The #608 Lakester, is the Dauernheim, (builder) Biglow, (driver), Davis (partner) AA/GL former/future Record Holder at Bonneville. The new skin was designed and built by IDA Automotive/Rob Ida Concepts from Morganville, N.J. Bob, and Rob did a fantastic job of Design, and Craftmanship in the panels, now on the "Car". Current paint by Jeff Davis, lettering by Dennis Smith. Bob Dauernheim, builder, former owner of Dauernheim Race Cars, and also NMW Products, with brother Al, has built many outstanding, award winning Race Cars , from NHRA, to Circle Track, to Bonneville, and also great Hot Rods, his '33 Coupe was "Best Engineered" at NY Rod and Custom Show in 1973. Don Biglow, driver, has raced in NHRA, Formula Fords, Late Models, Sprint Cars, with the United Racing Club, and now Bonneville, member of the 200MPH club, and was AA/GL Record Holder at 287. Hope to go 300+ on the Salt this year.
Marcia, thanks for the pic of the 608, got any more? My camera died. Your picture is at the line for our second run, That's 250 mph tape on the body seam over the rear wheel. It stayed on. John, thanks for the history on Bob, he's really one of the best unknown/unappreciated racers that there is. I'm honored to have the opportunity to work with him. We set 290.448 at the Salt in 2009 in AA/FL. And that version of the car went 293++ on the qualifying run. And 297 out the back trap speed. Getting back the AA/GL record is within reach for us now. Hammond has it at 311.**x We are confident that it is achievable. Our test at Loring was a sucess. Very little to do to prepare for B'ville. Frank
I watched Bill Warner run 272 at Maxton last year. He cranks it with the original starter and putts around the pit area like he is riding a tow bike (which he does not use) and it is as quiet as any stock Busa. At Maxton the bike was still accelerating when it went through the clocks leaving no doubt it could turn 300. He proved it. To say he had big balls is an understatement. Sitting outside of a canopy there is no way he could survive a spill at that speed. He is one of the most courageous racers ever. I hope he is done because I don't see anybody taking his record away any time soon.
Great event! I belevie there was 5 Studebakers though. The yellow one, white one, black or dark blue, Venables and the orange and white 9304?
Soon, Marcia, Soon!!! (will post some tonight) Just a note: My son Ron Jr. went 219 mph with Steve Van Blarcom's Roadster and made it the fastest roadster on the East Coast!!! Wooo Hooo! And, yes, I witnessed the man with "Balls of Steel" go 311!!! There is a video on facebook already!!
