Hey..I've got a 670 Holley on my 327 thats been sitting for quite some time..It starts right up but wont idle worth a S--T....Its probably full of debris and is starting to leak near the vac secondary area...I'd like to hear anybodys recommendation on this carb...would I be better off in the long run to replace it or rebuild it?...Does anyone know if there is such a facility around that exchanges these for rebuilt ones? Thanks guys..LK66
Holley had some problems with them in 06-07 and the alum. used for the bowls and meetering blocks will delaminate and come apart. If this is the case you will need to replace the bowls and blocks or the whole carb.
Thats probably right around the time this motor was rebuilt...I just saw another post somewhere that had pics of the zinc delaminating all over inside and was really throwing this guy a curve..probably better to just plan on replacing it...appreciate your feedback.....LK66
One of my favorite street carbs, I've built at least ten engines with 570-670 Avengers and not had a problem with any of them. I'd pull it down and look it over before replacing it, might be something simple like a shrunken gasket or hardened power valve. -GP
I called them with mine and they replaced it free of charge. give em a shout. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=493797
My experience with Holleys that have been sitting is to take the needle & seat ***emblies out, spray everything off with carb-cleaner, and reinstall them. Also take out the idle mixture screws, spray carb-cleaner in the holes, and put them back in. It should run fine...
Thanks Guys....I really didn't want to have to pop for a different carb...as usual, The H.A.M.B. GUY'S COME THRU AGAIN !!!!...I'll try those things and get back to ya...LK66
Same here. I'm still running my 670 today. It's a good little carb that gets a bad rep. Pull the bowls off and look for little white spots of oxidization, or the outer coating peeling off. If you see either, you have one of the bad ones. Holley did right by me and sent me a brand new updated carb, and a call tag to pick up the defective one.
