Rock on Commander!! His longtime guitarist, Bill Kirchen and I share the same birthday! Have a great day brother. ~sololobo~
Happy Birthday, Commander! Anybody else heard Bill Kirchen's live version of Hot Rod Lincoln? Talk about cool! Now I gotta go listen to Smoke, Smoke, Smoke That Cigarette.
Happy Birthday,Commander! A little trivia: When Willie Nelson sold his bus "Honey****le Rose" guess who bought it? Yup! Commander Cody. Maaaan...if that bus could talk!
Right there with ya r pope. He was at a good guys show in Spokane a while back. I guess he lived there. Didn't know it was him untill a year later. Would've shook his hand and thanked him for a great song! But happy birthday commander Cody!
Happy Birthday Commander. I"d go down to the 7-11 and steal ya sumthin real nice, but, right now I'm havin too much fun..
One drink of wine, two drinks of gin.......and I'm lost in the Ozone again! I love Georgie, Bill, Creeper and the gang!
How about 'Midnite on the Strand'? I used to watch/hear him do a set - it lasted 3 shots long and during the last song befor the break he'd be hinting if anybody was going outside for a little somthin that he'd appreciate an invite. He gave me a cd - he said he didn't have anything else to do so he'd make cds' of his concerts - and i just about wear it out.
Former LI Lifeguard George Frayne headed west then hit the Midwest and got hooked up with a bunch or really talented college musicians from Michigan and voila....Commander Cody & his Lost Planet Airmen were born. I saw them in concert quite a few times and believe me when I tell you they were an extremely tight band that really got the crowd on their feet. The Commander is also a very talented artist as in painting and I believe sculpture. John Tichy the rhythm guitar player is now a professor in northern New England and though he might not do it much anymore Bil Kirchen would always play his trombone for Beat Me Daddy Eight to the Bar and blow the roof off the joint.
Had the pleasure of seeing Commander Cody and his Lost Plant Airmen at the very first Day on the Green. Oakland Coliseum 1974. Day On The Green #1: Grateful Dead, The Beach Boys, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen (June 8, 1974).
