At the recent Iola, WI swap meet I took a chance on what looked like a nice little 60 horse flathead engine and ****** that an older man was selling. He had taken it out of his 37 Ford car 10 years ago when he street rodded the car and had saved it in his garage all this time until now when he decided it was time to sell. As a guy who buys engines, I know all the risks involved and of course Flatheads are a shot in the dark at best. But---it is a rare engine and you got to pay to play......so I stepped up. Fast forward 2 weeks and we have now cleaned, painted, tested it for compression and oil pressure, placed it on a custom built stand and made a video of it running. Then we removed the heads and looked for cracks in the block. We could not see any. My helper Blake did most of the work as usual. This is not a cl***ified ad----I just wanted to share my story and photos. You can also watch the video if you like. I would love to see this engine used in a land speed record vehicle such as a belly tank roadster or some other historic preservation someday. Anyway---I am excited so check it out:

Maybe you should find a way to use it in a car of your own for some kind of speed compe***ion.

    Sounds good!

Thank you guys---if you think buying a used collector car is risky, you should buy some dirty old greasy engines and take them home to see what you got yourself into----but I love the challenge! I got lucky this time.

Darn you- after linking to the video I had to watch all the test runs of the other engines too. They all look great just like the Ford. Good work!

It has the correct Stromberg 81 carb and I have an extra set of aluminum heads for it that are nice.

sure would be a good engine for a altered wheelbase, wheelie popping clown car. Rumor has it there is one that is going to be foolishly raced against a Rocket powered roadster.

maybe some Henry Ford V8 horsepower would give that poor clapped out car a chance.

Nice score! It's always great to see swap-meet diamonds in the rough taken home and brought back to their former glory!

You did a good thing, Larry. The seller is probably singing praise to you this minute.

Cool---then you did good. They are basically only good for a display item in that condition. I have sold them that way before. They look cute in a shop or garage display.

I can't tell if that is an early tin side 60 or not.

The video reminded me of a bob-tailed dog wagging his tail. Neat little engine.

I do like the idea of putting it in my "wheelstander" but the truth is it is the perfect parade car right now without making it faster which wold ultimately lead to a possible rollover---
