Bill Warner and his 311 mph bike. There is a chunk missing from the fender. The 311 mph wind bent it into the tire and it broke a piece out....

    thanks for the pictures, too.

It's just like being there, oh wait, I was:D

I think the 71 made it to 199 on Sat. Is that right?

I hope we need to test run again. The prime rib at the Presque Isle Inn was really good.

man cars nowadays doing the time trials stuff sure are ugly compared to the old days. whaat are you racing on? is it an air strip?

  9. Damn Frank, you really get around! I'm jealous.

Thanks for the very cool pictures. I'm going to be up that way this weekend. The local lobster pound IS on the agenda. The prime rib will have to wait.

Thanks, Marcia and 5wgirl! That's good news. a very cool car and they really have been working hard for that. I think they were only at 138? a couple of weeks ago in Maxton.

Mike, I may never eat prime rib again. I've had the best, and any further indulging is gonna be a disapointment. There is no lobster way up there where we were. Only meat and potatoes. This last week was the Potato Blossom Festival week. Potato lovers from all over the country go to maine for this.

The ex-SAC base we were at was closed as an active base in 1994. It was the closest place for us to have B-52's for the flight to Russia. They said 300 miles closer to Russian targets than any other place on the US mainland.

Mike, you gonna make B'ville this year?

Also, what is the distance you guys have to get up to speed? How long is the strip?

Amile and a half to get up to speed. The traps are 130' and about a mile to slow down. The cl***es are the same as Maxton and Bonneville.

Here are more pictures...had to use Ron's alias to post these.. That is Arnie Shuman talking to Ron. He wrote "Cool Cars, Square Roll Bars". And Bill Warner fresh off his 311 run on the bike.
    Enjoy,

I'm not sure how fast it went. The first p***, Rod couldn't get it into 4th. Trouble with the linkage. Maybe 150's? Bob Biden and **** Morse drove it too. I was busy with the Corvette. We had 5 drivers with a top speed of 185.
I'm doing great, had a top speed of 176. I was just happy to find all 5 gears!

Great pictures and story to boot. How often are the races there scheduled? That sounds like a road trip to me.

    Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks for the photos Laura,

and Congrats to Ron Jr. But I take it Ron (Sr. - would he like to be called that?!?) isn't as happy as he had hoped. That bike looks insane.

Bill Warner is THE MAN , 311 mph...No roll bar, no five-point seat belt, and remember that the Loring meet is run on a fairly short co****. Can you imagine the speed he could possibly attain running on the salt !

I think that he will have traction problems on the salt flats ... I could spin the tire in 3rd with 128 hp Buell. He puts out over 700 hp. Definately a long course bike.

Corey, you can call him anything you want!!l Ha Ha...No, they are 2 different people so I can't call both of them Ron, because then you would get confused.
Are you confused now??? Ha Ha Ha...

  27. Gotta say I totally love us New Englandy hot roders. 311? Crazy. Love to see that on the salt too.

Laura, thanks for posting more pics for us guys who couldn't go (and frankly didn't know it was happening). I'll pay more attention next time.

    Mike.

  28. The people were nice. The runway was nice. The weather was nice. The vintage modifieds at SPUD SPEEDWAY were great... and I saw a moose.
I reset top speed on my GPS. I was still accellerating thru the beams another 1/4 mile or so before I got on the brakes. I may never know where the 57 tops out.

    I loved your Pontiac!!!

The only thing wrong last weekend was, the lack of CB announcements. We had to wait until we got the time slips to see what our cars did. (and...the Jumbotron didn't work)...

Where did you see the Moose??? (and don't say Wal-Mart Ha ha).... I was bummed because we never got to Spud Speedway.

  30. Thanks for the pix. I was in line most of Saturday and didn't get a chance to do much else.
The modifieds at Spud has a 53 Stude, 51 Ford, 63 Ford, 55 57 59 Chevys, plus your usual Chevelles and 38/39 Fords. Real cool collection.
The moose was on my way back from Nova Scotia, just back across the border around Topsfield, Maine. The baby was bigger than any deer I ever saw and the adult was fr*kin huge. Like 10-12 foot to the shoulder and maybe 15-18+ at the head. No rack. Impressive animal. I've never swerved around anything quite like it before. Good thing we both had plenty of time to clear each other.
