valient/plym trans question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by VisionInvisible, Jul 20, 2011.

  1. I am thinking of picking up a 64 Valient plymouth soon. If I can get a good enough price. It runs, but there is a transmission leak. Owner says he had it checked out and the main seals are good the leak is coming from the linkage area?

I ***ume it's just a gasket or seal.

1# what type of transmission would be in this car? I know its a 1-6 engine and the trans is pushbitton. Is it a Torquflight?

2# Where would I find seals for this transmission.

    thankyou

It should be a torqueflite. The linkage icomes through a hole in the case. It's got a small seal like a wheel bearing seal but a lot smaller that drives into the case there. It should come in a rebuild kit, but you might be able to get just that part at a trans shop. You have to drain the trans and drop the valve body to fix it IIRC you can't change it from the the other side.

I thought they had an O ring on the cable? But you probably need to look it over carefully to make sure exactly where the oil is coming from. I expect that if it were easy to fix, he would have fixed it.
