I tend to use early '70s GM door lock solenoids. Sealed, strong, and last a long time. They also have a built in mounting bracket (early ones were screwed to the ineer door panel, later ones were riveted). Not to prone to burning down. Hook them through a relay and a circuit breaker.

You should look online for SPAL kits.
I'm currently setting one up on my brother in laws 49 chevy truck.
The receiver is easy to install, and the solenoids are beefy.
You might be able to use your stock latches. I use the stock latches on my 65 t-bird. The latch throws out the door so no need for push poppers.
I dont how your latches work.
I should check my buddies 62.

    Hope that helps.

Every car is different when using stock latches.
When i got my first kit it came with pulleys and brackets.
I didnt use any of that ****. You have to take the lock rod off and make sure it wont lock itself.
Then find a place on the latch wher you can hook up a cable for the pull.
its best to find a place for the solenoid that is a straight shot to that point.
You have to make sure that the gl*** isnt goin to hit when its down.
then you have to figure out if your goin to use the inside handle for openig if you cant you to use an electric ****ton.

I got one off ebay that included wiring, control box, solenoids, two ****ons, two remotes, and two poppers for about $120 including shipping. Didn't have any problems out of it at all until someone spilled a drink and it ran into the control box...... they still worked but you had to use the ****ons instead of the remotes.

Yeah, I'm in the market to buy new ones within the next few days too.....the last ones I had on my truck were complete and total **** (both sides ended up on fire) - I can't remember the brand, I'll have to ask Kustombuilder...

Anyways, I'm interested to hear what you guys think is best, as well.

That speedway kit looks cool, I'd use one soleniod for the driver side door, and one for the trunk. It seems that there is really no need for three solenoids, just open the p***. side door from the inside. Especially if you are on a budget like me.

Oh, but you are SO wrong.

Do you know how many times I've pulled a muscle reaching across my damn truck to open the other door? :(

At RBs we sell the Spal kit that Speedway sells. We get $149.95 plus shipping. We sell 400 - 500 kits a year, and have had very few problems with them. When there was a problem, their customer service was excellent, with generally a one day turn around. They also come with 40 lb. solonoids now, and as long as your latches are cleaned and regreased, they pull just fine.

this is important, and why i ended up going with the GM door lock solenoids.

Usualyy $5-10 at salvage yards. No cables, just a solid latch like the stock door pull is (I also usually leave the inside handles hooked up for ease of entry, less chance of accidental opening, and the ability to open the door from the inside in case of fire or other electrical failure).
these '70s Chrysler ones are similar:

But, even these $10 Corvette ones would work.

I've yet to see one fail.

On one of my previous vehicles, I used a kit from Dakota Digital, and it worked great. A buddy of mine swears by their kits, he has used many other manufacturers, and said that he likes Dakota Digital's the best. -Joe
