Was wondering what ppls thoughts would be on a Relocated battery in the trunk along with a mustang gas tank in there also?

Im sure it prolly be ok but part of me is a little sketchy on that idea.

No big deal, vent the gas tank away from the battery and make a top for the battery to prevent the stupid mistake where somthing drops aross and shorts the battery posts. No significant difference from having a battery under the hood and the fuel pump right under it like a sbc.

I have the battery and a aluminum gas tank side by side in the rear of my 29 Ford sedan. They are also covered with a aluminum frame and aluminum sheeting. No problems,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,So far.
These 2 are about 2" apart too.
    Cheers,

Yup, just follow NHRA/IHRA rules for mounting/wiring it and you wont have any problems.

Use a sealed battery box vented to the outside and vent the gas tank outside too.

You need to vent the battery box to the outside of the vehicle. This will prevent hydrogen build-up in the trunk in case the battery overcharges. If you've ever witnessed a hydrogen fire (like I have in the trunk of my 36 Ford), you'll make sure you do this right.

Good info. I was thinking about this recently for my car too

  11. My daily has the battery in the trunk, with the fuel tank, from the factory.
The battery has vent tubes though.

I agree with oj and aaggie. I have that set up and it works fine. Look at it this way, the gas tank should be vented outside regardless of battery location.

    Not trying to hijack but,
How do you vent the battery? just run a tube out the top of the battery box to the outside of the car?

Im thinking of putting one behind my seat in my pu

  14. Put it in a sealed box with a vent tube running out of it. Run the vent tube through the floor board in your case.

my 31 sedan had a wedge gas tank against the back wall on a stand. I mounted the small dynabat battery directly to the stand underneath the tank...No problems there!

Get yourself a sealed battery such as an Odyssey. I would recommend an Optima battery, but "they are NOT what we thought they were."

Can i just run any type of rubber hose or is it specific?

  19. The 2 supplied with the above battery just seem to be rubber vacuum type hose.

    My Prius came that way.............

What???, oh I mean not a Mustang gas tank of course.

About every NHRA drag car is set-up that way.

I run with a battery in the trunk in a marine battery box with a lid strapped on it, never had any problems with it.

  22. Not directly related to the original question but I had a '68 & a '76 Corvette. Their batteries are mounted behind the drivers seat in the p***enger compartment. Those batteries had vent tubes on the caps and ran through holes in the floor. If I recall correctly the tubing was very similar to vacuum line. Plain rubber or vinyl tubing should work fine.

  23. When I had my dirt track car years ago I had the fuel cell & the battery in the trunk. Never had a problem as they were SECURELY MOUNTED.
