I was on the phone most of the morning with Vintage Air. After taking measurements ect, the guy started telling me everything that doesnt come with their $1200 complete kit. I was tested, cuz it landed up being closer to $1500. before all additional items needed. So I called Southern Air. I got the system ordered with pulleys and brackets and an extra Alt bracket to relocate it inward. The system complete and the extras came to $810. Now I havent recieved it yet but I called a couple buddies and they said they wouldnt hesitate using southern air, vintage is to pricey. I will repost once it is installed.

That's about what I found out. I said that I made up my mind for Vintage but now think I will get a Southern Air also.

I have southern air in my 34 chevy tudor master sedan, and it fits well under the dash. It has floor heat and defrosters. Controls can be in dash or under, your choice. They now have a dash control that looks 30's for a few $ extra. I give S A unit a thumbs up. Good luck. Molock

I have installed a few vintage air kits. Their product is quality, and their customer service is outstanding. That being said they are the brand name; they charge a lot for their product, but they have put a lot into their product. I can see where someone could argue against brand names with other things like dynamat, but for something like AC I really think you get what you pay for.

I got my Super Frost system from southern air. Ordered it monday and on my step wed. I had to call them because I didnt understand something, SOuthern is very helpfull. Nice folks! SO everything said, I paid a grand total of $861 including shipping and all additional parts. I got Pulleys and Alan Grove mounts for both the A/C and ALternator. To say I am happy is an understatement. Vintage Air wanted between $1300 and $1500 before addons.

One thing I have found out is there are only a few mfg of A/C components. Sanden, which is factory on most cars and semi's and Fourseasons. I am looking at my stuff and pretty sure its sanden. My unit has A/C (of course) floor heat, and defrost along with a manual coolant shut off valve and byp***. This is all I could ever want. I will let you know how it goes after it is installed. Thus far, I have mounted the condensor. mounted the pulleys and alt and compressor, and mocked up the under dash unit. I am hoping to have that done tomorrow night. Then make the hose ends and install controls. Then charge it.

That's great mustang. Keep us informed on the progress. Planning on giving them a call sometime today, myself. That way I can have it here by the first week in August for when I start my vacation.

Never heard anything good about Southern or their customer service. Besides their control panel looks funky compared to VA or Old Air. VA and Old Air Sure Fit product utilizes your original controls.
I to had a problem with a VA unit as it leaked anti freeze when calling for cooling. Not fun installing the evaporator unit twice. I also like the Old Air installation better then VA on a Tri5 Chevy. I also believ their core is larger then VA's as well.

Well, I went ahead and ordered a complete setup. Went with the Maxi I because of the electric controls and heater control valve. Not avaliable with the Superfrost. While I was at it I got a 100 amp internal regulator Chrome alternater too. Only have a 35 amp one now with an external regulator. Don't think that is enough. Should have it by the middle or end of next week.

Read earlier posts on this thread, there is plenty of good comments.

Congradulations Alpo. I made a frame and I will have it mounted under the dash tomorrow, and will have all controls in. Then all will have to do is make the hoses. Sounds like you got a nice setup.

I have a 20 year+ supercooler(VA) that hasn't worked right in 10 years. I finally figured out that one of the va***n actuators wasn't "actuating". So I call Vintage Air and asked them where I can find a replacement actuator. They laughed and told me I needed to buy a new unit($600+). I asked again where I could find a va***n actuator, and they said nobody had made them in years. So I called Southern Rods (aka Southern Air). They said to bring over the actuator and they'd come up wth something. They found something I could make work, then gave it to me. None of this "you need to buy a new $600 unit ****p". I realize that the unit was really old, but VA acted like I was bothering them. I have VA in 2 other cars, and will NEVER BUY anything from them again.

I had a bad experience with Southern Air. Ordered an Ammeter and they sent the wrong one. Ihad to send it back at my expense. I made numerous calls and they wouldn't call back. I finally got one somewhere else. After over several months and my threatning to tell everyone i know they sent cost of part and original shipping back. Very poor customer service. I would never order from them again.

It is in!!!! I have the under dash unit mounted, duct work ran, and all wired up..... It went pretty smooth. I did have a a few questions and I called SOuthern Air, they where helpfull and fast. Now all I have to do is get the tool to make the lines, and charge the system.

It may seem like it is taking a long time, however when I am out in the garage people come by and talk, my sons come by, and besides installing the A/C I have done 1 ****** service, 1 front brake job, installed a bug deflector, and an oil change on a diesel, how great it is being DAD.... Thank god I took the week off.

Sounds good. You are faster than I would be. I'm gone most of the week and usually back home on fridays then home till monday morning then back out. Not a lot of time to do anything. Especially after gr*** cutting and a bunch of honey-do's. :)

Another guy with 70* temps telling those in the south A/C isn't needed. Nice. I've run my DD truck w/o A/C during the last three summers and it was miserable. The new DD has operational A/C and it's great. A/C is going in the Stude.
