For the ultimate Margarita and tequila selection, go to Big Star on Damen in Wicker Park. The best margarita downtown is the "Topolo" Margarita at Frontera Grille (very near your hotel).

By the way, there is nothing dangerous at all about the area around the Sofitel Hotel.

This weekend, the Wicker Park Festival is going on Saturday and Sunday. Lots of great food and music and it only cost a $5 donation to get in. It is located on Milwaukee and North Streets in the Wicker Park area. I'm on my way there now...

 

thanks for all the info i will be flying into midway tomorrow myself work related ill be there for 3 weeks ill try some of the suggestions.good food ranks near the top of my to do list while up there.

Good way to spend an evening: hit Gene and Judes 2720 River Road in River Grove. Some say best hot dog in America. Afterwards head north a couple blocks to the Hala Kahiki (2834 River Road), the best Tiki bar you'll ever find and in continuous operation since 1965. No food tho, just pretzels, so eat before you go.
