What are these 16" wheel covers? Lyons? Rikster!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Chris, Jul 26, 2011.

  1. I was up picking up a 41 Ford I bought for parts and the guy had these two wheel covers laying on the ground. They looked like 16's so I picked em up and he sold em cheap. They are indeed 16" caps, steel outer with a stainless center. Are these a type of Lyons cap? They do not look like a factory cap to me, but who knows. I also have this other lone 16" cap with a fakey cad looking emblem. What is it?

    Lyon's...
As mentioned by the others. Great sample. I had never seen the combination hubcap other than in the ad, and being mentioned.

    Great find.

Great score!! Those hubs are really nice

  15. Geeze, even without the ad them being 16" rules out pretty much every DeSoto ever made, because by the time you get early enough for them to have 16s every car had small caps.

The single cap I believe is gennie Cadillac, circa 1950-ish, the shield has all the right stuff on it.

  16. Last one if definitely a Caddy cap

  17. Really? What vintage Cad's had those?

I didn't either. An older guy in 1953, Louie Fahrberger, had a set of those on the front of his '40 mild custom, I asked if they were Cadillacs. (the crest looked like the Caddy crests on my Mom's Caddy)

Louie said, "Nope, they're 'Custom'." I think Urzi's Custom Auto Accys. in San Jose stocked them, there were a few "Cad" type on the wall, and they carried only aftermarket parts.
Those stood out, because of their "moon" shape...Caddys were mostly 'sombrero' style.

Go ahead and send those steel rings here and we'll get ya hooked up with some chrome Brother.

  26. $20 is pretty good. They are not worth that much because most folks dont know anything about them. Hopefully they wont catch on.
I have paid $1 for a single cap and up to $40 for a nice single.......and $15 for a full set of drivers.

  27. Apologies on the Caddy cap call, comment withdrawn..I was mesmerised by the logo in the centre and didnt look at the rest of it
