Had this car for a few years now. Really do not like it as a sedan. So I had been looking for 3 window parts for a while. Finally found a pair of rough doors and rear clip. Today I made the braces and started to cut the sedan rear clip off. Have to drill out a bunch of spot welds yet Even with all of the braces in place, after my first cut, the body still moved. I am sure that this will not matter as the 3 window rear clip is not perfectly straight. Do not know what will need to be cut to get everything to fit. This conversion might involve my first top chop also . Hope I do not end up taking this to the scarp yard . If I can not get the body together correctly I might be looking for a 5 window coupe body to put on my frame
My bracing in the sedan. The 3 window clip. Put some tape on for the top chop lines. Thinking about a 2" chop nothing to radical.
Went out this morning and started to cut the sedan apart. This is easy really do not know why I was scared . Hope it go together as easy as it came apart Things might get interesting around here in a few days. Will have to clean up the sedan floor and 3 window clip and get them mated
You know you are one inch of brittle concrete away from having that car tumble down, dontcha? You should get some real jack stands. Or at the very least, get two concrete blocks, set them on their sides like they are supposed to, and place a thick hunk of plywood on top. Then the weight of the car won't want to crack the thinnest part of the block.
Gotta say I agree completely, that is an awful mickey mouse - unsafe way to set up a car to work on it, even if it is only a shell.
It was supported by the floor jack. The blocks were there only for minimal support as they were the correct height. My jack stands are not adjustable that I have for the rear. They are about 1" too high. I wonder why almost all of the old ford tailpans are rusted out..............Removed the outer skin and it was full of ****.
Got the rear clip installed........I think with a little mud it probably will be ok. Finally got a flathead for my car. It turns over a little. Has a bunch of **** in the cyllinders. Has been setting since the 70's. Now to see if the block is good then the engine build starts.............
This is going to be interesting.I like the approach you are taking to get what you want....the approach least taken.go for it.subscribed
Today I removed the firewall insulation. Car was from Montana and for some reason they wanted 2 heaters in it. Have a few holes to fill up.
At least the holes in your firewall are cut fairly nice the ones in mine look like some one used an axe
Pushed the car outside today and cleaned the garage. Had a couple of visitors about the car. One guy said to rip the junk front suspension out and update it to the modern Pontiac Fiero suspension, it will drive like a dream . He said if I do not use the Fiero at least use the Mustang II. I just let him talk about all of this modern suspension under these old cars and how much better they are. All of the time he was talking I was thinking what a good friend of my wife that recently p***ed away was always saying, you can't fix stupid.
Got me a rearend.......... Was at the gas station yesterday when a guy pulls in hauling a junk Explorer. Ask him what he is going to do with it. "Its going to the "s****per". I ask about the rearend............he says "how about a 12 pack of Busch Light". He follows me home and I get the torch out and get me a diffy .
Well a lot of things have been going on behind the scene. To make a long story short, I had to offer most of our stuff for sale due to the divorce decree. Will call the lawyer and double check to make sure everything is satisfied before I start on the car.
UPDATE I did have to sell the car and several other things. The divorce is complicated because the Judge and I had a different opinion about a car about 20 years ago. Now I am looking for a 35-36 3window or a 32-34 coupe-sedan project again. This time there will not be anybody else involved to complain about buying or working on an old car
