I have been on the lookout for parts or a good parts truck as I would like to find a rear bumper and some better doors and a few other things for my 58 Apache. I had been eyeballing a truck for a while and yesterday I finally stopped to check it out. From the road it looked like a 58-59 GMC stuck on a later model 4X4 chassis but when I stated looking at it I noticed it said NAPCO on the front differential. I am not sure what all had been done to the truck or if the frame is original. There has been a bunch of stuff added to the suspension like locator arms to the rear differential, big blocks to raise the truck and a pile of leaf springs. It is a ¾ ton long bed step side. It looks like the axles , transmission and transfer case are NAPCO pieces from what I can tell from pictures I have seen on the internet. It has no title and does not run. He wants 2000.00 for it and I have no idea the value of the conversion or how to tell what parts are original. If anyone can point me in the right direction for information on the NAPCO conversion please let me know. I did find a NAPCO owners web site but you can’t really go in a look around without paying 25.00 to register.
spend the $25.00 and register! The information and networking will pay back your investment many times over. if the drivetrain is good, it is well worth the asking price. best wishes!
I hate to join up and then not buy the truck. I might have to though. I think I will stop back this week and take some pictures to make sure its what I think it is.
If you're thinking about investing $2k, $25 is a small price to pay for knowledge that may save you from making a $1K mistake (if turns out to be only worth $1K).
I wouldn't buy it, because you might become a stuck up NAPCO owner who thinks his info is worth $25. Seriously, $2k is a lot of money for a parts truck. Tell him you'll buy the truck if he gets a good title first. You don't want to buy that kind of problem.
Go to http://www.oldgmctrucks.com they have a pretty decent disc page and the http://www.6066gmcguy.org has info to read, somewhat rare rigs as not everyone and their dog had to have a 4x4 in those days to ride around town.
So... I went ahead and paid the 25.00 at 9:15 am Friday with paypal so I could join up and register and have not got anything back from the Napco 4X4 website. I sent two emails to find out if I can have the info I need to register and got nothing back. Not real happy with the site so far.
