Some time ago I started a thread looking for HAMB help with a problem. This is the text of the original thread. This even had the HAMBers stumped. I have an injected 350ci and set up all the necessary additional fuel pump and reservior tank.Car has been running fine and now when you turn on the ignition and the pump starts its action a whistle starts and then stops when the pump stops.Start the engine and the whistle starts and continues while the car is running.Engine runs fine just this dam whistle sound. It runs 2 pumps. One push and one pull from memory. Well I finally figured it out.I eventually decided it was in the pressure regulator.I did the old screwdriver to the ear trick and this was definitely where it was coming from.Accidentally as I moved the screwdriver down but still on the regulator I crossed it over the two stainless lines running to the transmission cooler and the noise stopped.Hello!!!! It appears that the regulator was not properly insulated where it was bolted to the crossmember. It was vibrating through the crossmember and then through the stainless lines and creating the whistle in the lines. My own orchestra under the car. I put some rubber grommets between the unit and the crossmember and problem gone!!!
A friend of mine had the same problem with a GM style injection unit. Regulator went south on it (brand new unit). Glad you got it fixed...
WELL, GOOD ON YA!...for finding that whistle. Probably yourself whistling a happy tune now, what? Some time back my wife, the moon of my delight, was emitting unseemly noises and I came after 'er with a long screw driver. My ears are still ringing, from the mighty rap aside the head, she delivered. Took a fortnight of years off me life! 4 decades ago she was racing about town in her '54 Hudson Super Jet...Twin-H, etc. Eventually gave it to "Hudson Bill" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0geZ38LXDM (a friend and official in the local chapter of the HET Club) as a parts car, as the frnt. suspension was dying from metal fatigue. Thats some weird **** there! With mechanical **** you never know what's going to turn up but the main thing is you figured it out and fixed it.
