Hey, I'm Skyler. I'm 16 and I've been saving up for for my first hamb friendly car and just a few weeks ago, I got one. A 1949 Plymouth Special Deluxe 4 door sedan. The story is a short and simple one. A friend and fellow car club member's family owns a towing company and he had this Plymouth in his yard. Since he had a lot of projects being built and were on there way to be built and he wanted me to get my first car, he decided to sell this one to me and thank God he did cause now I'm in love. So far I cleaned out the interior since i took these pictures and are now the seats are in the back of my truck. Not sure if I'm going to use these seats or toss them. Other then that and the passenger floorboards, she is rock solid thank God for this Wyoming weather. As you can see on the window, she has the title (only one owner), and she runs, which is what we did. Also the flattie is in great condition and the carburetor is like brand new. * http://s1106.photobucket.com/albums/h361/SkySpring307/?action=view¤t=2011_03190025.jpg Anyways, I got to go work on her and take more pictures. I keep posting my updates. Here are some more pictures. Thanks! Junk I found. I found about 20 but keep only the good ones.
Looks like the exterior won't need much work and the chrome looks in really good shape, hope you stick with the wheels too.The interior may be a challenge, send me a pm if you are interested in a link to building door panels on a budget.
The car looks great for a first project and I'm sure you have all the help that you need. The floors do look pretty horrible but if you can weld and bend some steel then you will be a lot better off than I am with replacing my floors. Good luck and take Jeff up on his offers for help, he's a genius with cars.
Don't know if you know, but a '50 Plymouth (not much different from your '49) won the first Southern 500 stock car race at Darlington SC. This is a great car for you to learn on. You'll develop some good sheet metal and welding skills fixing the floors. There is no rocket science involved in working on a '49 Plymouth, the flat 6 is really hard to kill and you can find some performance stuff for it if you look around enough at swap meets. The late '40s and early '50s Chrysler products were among the better handling cars of that period.
Good job meatloaf. She'll be running in no time. Sky, don't forget that I have a set of tires waiting in the wings for ya.
Thanks guys. I need to make it up to the shop to update the photos on of this days. I need a new front seat ashtray though.
Cool car.....good for you. And the fact that it already runs is a big benefit..... Work on it and drive it at the same time .... Enjoy, and good luck... Cheers........
Thus, the reason for cliffs being invented...AND kinda prompts one to meditate on the final scene of "Thelma and Louise." I always felt cheated that I didn't see that T-bird smack the canyon floor below...as I'm confident you did of that Colt's 0-60 run. Probably straightened out that front bumper, too. HAPPY TRAILS!...and, Eat Chili!
I think we had one that was AWD, 5 Speed, like along time ago! I can't see any pictures of this plymouth? Just me?
Pics still aren't working on this page! I think this is a link to the Album? Here: http://s1106.photobucket.com/albums/h361/SkySpring307/
My first sled is the one you see when you view my "avatar", '62 Chevy II, Nova, SW. My old man gifted me with it, new, a short time before going off to war...for the first time. It now has 556,000 MI. Not a race car, just an everyday mobile, automated, appliance...an AUTO-MOBILE!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jEjF2Qk5PA Happy Trails!
