gassersteve you might have at them with soapy steel wool SOS pads 000 grade. Will not harm the whitewalls and should clean them up good. That way you'll find out if it is just atmospheric induced discoloration or chemicals leaching through the whitewall from the vulcanizing process (tends to turn them brown). You may need to appply some elbow grease but the result will be worth it.

  2. Thanks Weasel. I should have some 000 steel wool in the garage. Little guilty pleasure of mine is buying random wheels, either aluminum or steel but mainly '60's only, from swap meets or yard sales and cleaning them up to see how clean they can come.

I was hangin' out in Melvindale, Mi yesterday evening and I seen a (of all things) a red Pinto station wagon with a set of wide whites on it and a set of "kicked in" dog dish caps on it... Looked like the owner was after that '50's look for it....

I am rolling on my third set of Coker classics, third car. I couldn't be happier, these came with car when purchased. No complaints. When I bought Cokers before, I has them mounted and balanced free and they rocked. Just my 2 cents. Weasel, great painting on your ass kickin wheels, superb. ~sololobo~

  6. When I got my Dodge, it had some 40's Allstate black wall bias plys on it. Fine on highways but terrible on winding, bumpy rural new zealand roads. Went with diamondback radials with no problems whatsoever..great tyres all round..;)

  7. I have Coker bias ply tires on the pickup and have put a lot of miles on them since 2007 and that's what I plan on using on the Deuce coupe.

Same here, I drove my 40 1100 miles round trip to Austin and back at hwy speeds and drive it locally all the time on "Real WW" Bias tires and would never change to radials! Same with my other two cars and even my old 63 T-Bird. Drove it several thousand miles on NOS WW Bias tires with NO issues and great ride!

  9. I have Coker made bias ply 16" Firestones on rear(16"s are tube type) and Coker 15" Goodrich on front. Love "em. Had them balanced good when installed and I can cruise down the hiway up to 75 mph all day. See avatar.

I've been really happy with my Firestone Champions from Coker. Bought them a couple of years ago (although I just changed the fronts because I went to a larger wheel size), the roadster is pretty much my daily driver unless the weather's looking sketchy and they haven't given me any trouble at all...

I put on Coker wide whites on vintique steel wheels with chrome outers and painted inners. Looks more traditional now. The American mags I had from a 55 chevy and were on the 36 while I got the dough for the whites and wheels.

I have a set of Bedford brand bias ply wide whites, ride good and all but they yellow quickly and take more effort than they should to get white again. Its almost like they "gloss over" and the white wall is slick and shiny until you scrub the gloss off.

Wow some work has gone into those rims! Beautiful and worth the effort.

  16. I've got Firestone wide whites on my truck and love them! The radials do ride better but you just can't beat the looks of the old bias.

I like the look and ride of firestone. They have a piecrust that looks correct. You can get them through Performance Plus in Long Beach. You can look on line to see other styles and sizes. Ive had firestones on my shoebox for over 10 years. On my second set.

Just put DB's www on Dad's 31 and he loves them. He did not care for the Cokers he had but they were in good shape so I am running them and like them. They are radials but have you seen the size of the rain grooves in Indiana!

I'm running Diamond Back speed rated tires on my truck and love them. DB told me to use a fine scuff pad and soap to clean when they get dirty, works great. Also were very nice and helpful.

I took the coupe on a 80 mile round trip today to see how the tires handled. I am happy, no shimmies, wobbles or hot spots. Went down the road straight and drama free. It was a tough decision with so many positive reviews of other brands. I went with coker and so far so good.

I like my Firestones. Never had any problems with them even though they were on the coupe for a couple of years before it got on the road. No wobble or hopping and goes down the freeway straight and smooth.

I've had 3 sets of Coker Classics.....2 of them (sets) came apart at speed after about 10,000 miles...they all developed hairline cracks on the surface of the whitewall, the first set, the tread separated from the tire (all four) and one blew out...the second set (on different car) the tread came completely off of the tire, leaving me with nothing but a carcuss attached to my wheel...both tire failures at freeway speeds in traffic...!
they seem to come after about 10,000 miles....Now mind you I had no problems with balacing or being out of round...they rode fine and Coker made good on every one of them, including shipping....but having a blowout at speed in traffic..?

I have switched fo the Diamond Back Fury's and love them...their service is outstanding....I still have one car with Cokers (I'm keeping my fingers crossed)
