  1. It would be near impossable in this truck. I'll stick to the basics.

  2. Here it is.

I had a little trouble with the latch across my chest for the head and neck restraint, I know I can do it in less than 20 sec.

Excellant! A few more dry runs and it will be natural. You are ahead of the racers that figure they will do it for the first time at B-Ville and be OK. Looking foward to seeing the truck make it's first pass.

    Love your truck!

    Couple of comments . . .

    There is no 20-second rule.

Can't tell if you do, but practice fuel shut-offs, electrical shut-off, etc. for bale-out. They'll be looking for you to do this, too.

    Wheel discs are not required.

Perhaps the driver nozzle could be located right under the steering wheel, directly in front of the driver. Fire would most likely come from that area and not higher up. Plus less chance of blocking driver view.

None of us know (at least I don't) the airflow patterns under the hood. We've guessed they're from front to rear and have positioned the nozzles in front of the engine, facing rearward, hoping for greater coverage.

See you in a couple of weeks,
    Stan Back

  6. Thanks for the comments, i do take most into consideration. I know there is no 20 sec rule , it's just what I'm shooting for. I do "kill" everything before exiting, I have a check list just like for forced landings something you run through your head all the time if you are a pilot. (mostly over mountains and water ;) ) I like the discs, required or not. I believe you may be right about the driver nozzle but there is not much room in there between my legs and there is also a very good possability of me kicking a line while getting in or out. I have thought about that with most things in the driver compartment. I must admit that I didn't think about air flow under the hood I just aimed them as if the truck would be still, that is not the way I want the truck to be. :D I have already cut the lines to length so for now I may just aim them forward a bit and re-plumb next season.

See ya in a couple of weeks.

  7. Ted Eaton did a bunch of cylider head teating on his dyno mule for a series of artical he is writing, included in these test were a few heads that I sent him, one set much like the ones on the Uni engine. Although they performed very well, better than a stock set of "Gs", he also tested the set of "G" heads that I first did for the "Yellow Brick" and they made 30 more HP than the C1TE heads that I sent. Needless to say when he delievers them to me at Bonneville I will want to change them out for the C1TEs that are on the engine. I will first make a couple of runs with the existing heads so I can make a comparison of my own. Field dyno if you will. It's stuff like this that makes it just that much more fun for me. :D

Here are the results of his tests. Enjoy! ;)

Tim, I just know that the Uni will be hauling the mail regardless of the heads you use. I know these are just shakedown runs but hope you exceed your expectations
Once again I won't be there at Bville - so hope that you and all the HAMBers that are there have a great time.

    Be safe y'all .. . . . .

Looks like we have some work ahead of us, changing heads on the salt will be a first for me lol

  12. We changed a cam last year, no easy job in a Y-Block, heads should be a walk in the park. I may also change a "Pumpkin", if it feels like the engine will pull it we are bringing a higher gear ratio. ;)

I learned they come out easier if you pull the axles more than an inch or so.

  16. Good run today! :D:D:D:D

  20. Tim, I love the truck. You did an amazing job and the body turned out great. I never knew a Y-block could sound so awesome. If I ever find myself with some extra money I will bring you a y-block to build for my Ford.

  21. Thanks for the comments, it was a blast yesterday. I think we might have hit 80 mph, not sure 'cause the tach wasn't working, but it felt good and I wanted to go faster. Everything ran strait and true, Todd did an excelent job on the front end and I think the 10* caster was a big help. Next stop Speedweek.
