Rubber to Stainless Steele...best adhesive???

Trying to put the stainless trim back on the windshield and it seems the clips are just too old. Everytime I get one end in place the other end pops out. Clips are buried under windshield gasket and car was just repainted so I don't want to mess with replacing the windshield. I tried windshield urethane adhesive and plenty of clamps but it just won't hold to the stainless. Wiped everything down with lacquer thinner but can't get it to stay.
Any ideas what I could use that would stick well to the rubber and the adhesive? Maybe an engine sealant??
    Thanks

Try some "yellow death", 3M Super Weather Strip adhesive.

Try something with a primer, like Dow Corning RTV732.

Odd, when I google 'RG180' it doesn't show up from US suppliers. I don't know what the stuff is but I figured it was worth checking out.

On the 3M adhesive please note there's different flavors, 3M does not recommend the 'Super Weatherstrip Adhesive' (in black or booger-yellow) for EPDM rubber, use the black 08011 Weatherstrip Adhesive for EPDM. Old OE rubber will not be EPDM but most new car seals and a lot of repro stuff is.

I'd be rather concerned that even if it works on day one, a little time, a little flexing and twisting, a few days of that stainless baking in the hot sun and it's going to pop off.

Are you sure there's not a different clip design you can work in around the edge of the seal? Does the seal have a groove in it to accommodate a trim clip? Just thoughts...

  11. That is what I was going to say only we always called it Gorilla Snot.

Sonething else that wokrs believe it or not is silicone seal but Gorilla Snot or "yellow death" is the proper adhesive and is not expensive.

I'd use a black urethane. Not the weaker windshield type. Duck tape to hold until set.. Holds real good, and wouldn't be too hard to remove if for some hard luck down the track.

I've had good luck with 3M black weather strip and gasket cement.

Would black weatherstrip adhesive work just as well?
I have that and GOOP waiting to be tried...for the 4th attempt. I really hope this works. I couldn't find 3M RG180. Two part epoxy sounds interesting, but what type/brand specifically?
    Thanks for all your help.
