Different size spindles and axle...Several months ago I bought what I was told is a F100 front axle. I had it professionally narrowed. Well I just tried fitting the F100 axle shafts & backing plates that I had ready to go and the darn things are too small. The axle that I bought came with axle shafts, but I just put them into a spare parts box. I now see they are larger. What do I have, a F250 or F350 axle? If that's the case, am I stuck using all F250 or 350 parts? What's the best approach. The brakes are going to be visible and want them as small as possible instead of m***ive brake drums, etc.
judging by the spring mounting areas i see in your pictures this looks exactly like a 57 thru at least a 59 ford pickup axle - I have one from a 59 and it looks just like it except for the narrowing - where on mine there is a drop area in the full width uncut axle 1/2 ton- hope that helps
That's what I thought...but my axle ends (that the king pins go through) are 2 3/4" tall. I think F100's are 2 3/8" tall. I think I have a F250 or F350 axle. Need to know best way to go about putting smallest drum brakes/parts on this axle. Options?
Small Drums/ Brake set-ups. <O</OLook around at your local Hi-Lo service center. <OThe bigger the out-fit the better. <O<OMost lift trucks have only front brakes, small drums. <O<O I've seen 7" to 9" dia, drums as the most common.<O</O Drums and shoes are wider for to make up the purchase of the smaller diameter, some 3" wide to 5" wide. <O<O</O Look at TCM, 3000lbs, range, TCM have automatic- hydraulic- actuated adjusters, always stop straight, no pulling. <O</O Would need a adjustable proportional valve. <OJust a thought. <O<O<Otim
