Projects So, If you were given a V-12 Lincoln flathead drivetrain, what would you do with it?

  1. Mysteriously like another idea we had for something a bit younger.... that project's modifications have been done to your cab - very cool and the most out of the box - I think...

    A slammed 30's COE (or a pickup cab with a bobbed front)... tilt bed to show and/or maintain the engine behind the cab... that way Larry can still get his hands on the wishbone... I'll look forward to the artist rendering for the winning suggestion

    The obvious one would be the hotted up A coupe like Charlie sang about.

    But for "something different" (like a Lincoln 12 isn't different enough ;) ) wasn't there a FoMoCo concept sports car in the late 40's or early '50s with one in it?

    It may have been a custom, hard to say but I seem to remember reading about it in one of the mags in the early '80s (Hot Rod, or some other Petersen pub.).

    So that would be my suggestion, either a custom two seater, or cram it in an Allard kit.

    I like the idea of "phantom" painted on exotic brand logos on the heads, Mazeratti, Porche, Ferrari, ... (insert brand here, especially any now defunct one that has any name recogniton).

    Heck make something wild and paint Pininfarina on the heads. :)
     
  7. The Lincoln front and rear ends are a little wide for most cars. The front ends can be narrowed to take a 28-34 spring (see photo).

    Unless the rear end is a two speed it is not worth much and there are no quick changes that fit. The brakes, if hydraulic, are hot rod gold and will bolt on to a narrower Ford banjo.

    It would look and work pretty slick in a little T modified and you could use most of what is there that way. Outside of a body and tubing for a frame the big expense would be the radiator to cool it and still fit right in the car.

  13. We are starting to warm up to a smooth nose, rear motor T roadster body turtle deck all smoothed off or something like that... Based on the earlier post of a rear engine race car with open wheels and the old Gratiot Auto Supply drag car... More to follow, I will need to get the pencils out this weekend...:cool::cool::cool:

    Put a piece of glass on top of it and some casters on the bottom and make a reallycool coffee table.
    My father replaced many of of those boat anchors with good running Merc flatties back in the day.

  18. I would put it in a '33-'34 salt flats styled 5-Window Ford. Chopped like the so cal racer '34 was.

    I have the rear quarters from a '60 Dodge. I have a plowboy inspired roadster in my mind for a project once hte Merc and my PU are done. A V-12 would be the tits!

    friend of mine has a '41 Zephyr!! great car! he had the V-12" built"so it would run better than stock, and parts are hard to find! he went to a large lincoln show to meet up with some of the guys that were talking him thru:p this build. so he rode in a car with the hot rod version of this engine. he said it couldn't pull a hill! he didn't think it would pass a car on the road. he went home and sold it in the classifieds of the lincoln publication for BIG bux!! and bought a 502!!!!!
