I bought this grill at a swap meet a few months back. I knew it was old, most likely from the early 30's due to the shape and the crank hole. I paid $25. I have looked high and low in reference books and on the web and I can not place it. It is approximately the same size as an unchopped '32 Ford shell. It fits tightly between Model A rails and tapers slightly toward the top. At one time it was chromed and appears to have been sand blasted. Overall the workmanship and chrome leads me to think that it was from a high end car. I am in Indy so a Duesy, Marmon, Stutz, Auburn, Cord or Lexington would be likely candidates. However, I can't place it with any of them. I think it looks like it would have come from a BMW or other European car, but I don't know much about them. Because of the 500 anything could make its way to my town. My question is, what is it? I already added a V-8 emblem and I don't want to butcher it anymore if it is valuable. If I can sell it and put the money back into a project I certainly will do so. If not, it's going on my jalopy '28 Model A and may need to be chopped down. Thanks for any help, -ejk
I'd say it's a 27-28 Pontiac or Oakland. The 30 and later Ponchos have a wider top on 'em but the divider bar looks pretty Pontiac-ish to me. The V/8 emblem is off a 50's ford product....prolly a grille emblem from a 55-56 pickup.
Right you are Rocky. The emblem was originally on my '51 F-1. The grill shell is more rounded like a '32 Ford wher the Poncho looks flatter. But dang it looks close as far as the center bar, circle around the crank hole, general shape, etc. I would guess a Poncho but a later model. Thanks for the help. Take Care, -ejk
EK, i would use it.. it looks cool and you sure won't see one like it at every show. Cut it up and make it yours. Tell em its off of a '29 Kinsey special. Rare car, ya know. -RD
