Hello All First time on the boards. Great site you have here. I am looking at buying my first cl***ic vehicle. A 1932 Chevy 1 1/2 Ton Dump Truck. It's all original, no major rust or dents. Has what the owner believes is 30,000 miles on a running inline 6. The PTO hydraulic dump bed works but does leak. Says it drives great and its registered as a cl***ic car in California. The floor has a new piece wood in it but all the other wood is in decent condition and all but the rear window is intact. He found it on a grain farm sitting in a barn and believes it was only used during that one season each year. Overall this truck is real clean and it looks great. I want to put a sign on the side and just leave it alone and use it as a marketing tool in my local town for my business. My main question is it's value. He is asking $5000 firm. I have spent hours researching and can not find anything on the value except I have found restored ones for over $20,000. My other question is if anyone has suggestions on what to look for on this type of truck. Anything in particular? So do you guys think this is a fair price? I just dont want to get burned and with little resources out there it's hard to judge and I am the type who normally researched this type of thing. Thank you all for your help. Picture attached... intro?....i think this is a 1 1/2 ton, 5 might be a fair price but in stock condition it won't be anymore than a big old truck, slow and hard to park.i love it and would drive it as is but i live in the sticks and the nearist devided highway is 40 miles away!
Well, if you want to restore it to 100% original It may be well worth the asking price as it looks like a solid truck but if you are looking for one to make a little hot rod truck out of and that is what we do on this board then I'd suggest finding a different truck at a much lower price. And by the way it is a one and a half ton truck an not a half ton but I think that is just your typo.
Thanks guys. Yes that was a typo and I fixed it in the body of the post now that you said something. As much as I would like a rat rod I would be buying this as a promotional truck only. We are opening a local hobby shop in a small farming town in California and I believe parking this in front or around town it would attract some attention and also be a long term investment. We will enter into parades etc. Thanks again guys. Mark
