just worked out a deal on a 53 buick thats way too good to pass up,,,,,my 51 chevy won't be ready for a while, so i figured i'd grab this car and have some fun with it in the mean time,,,,its a 53 with a straight 8,,,,just looking for some pics of mild custom buicks to get a couple of ideas as the car is totally stock,,,thanks
Droplord, Same car in both pic. Owned by KustomBuick on the board.. does not post much anymore but he checks in from time to time.
This is the '53 Buick of Lars Helgren, built by David Guymon.I think when it comes to Buick's,it doesn't get any better than this one.Very tasteful car ! Some of David Guymon's work on this car was featured in Rod & Custom some years ago.He definitely is a master of his trade and is for some reason one of the "lesser known" Customizers, just like Scott Guildner,Paul Bragg etc. Okay, this is no mild one and I hope this pic doesn't make you put your Chevy on the back burner...
Here's the one Gene Winfield built for a japanese customer called "Purple Haze".I think the car would look even more better without the rocker chrome.
I agree that the rocker trim sucks crapper. Those bubble skirts suck even more ass. The bubble skirts suck even more ass. They should go back about another 8 inches. What a beautiful car though.I swear,The only people that ever knew how to run bubbles were from Michigan or Ohio and even a few from Jersey.Hey Does any one have pics of the Blue and Silver 53 that Rod Powell did years ago??
I don't like bubble skirts at all because they look so,well, bubbly...I always think when I see those skirts, there you have the car and there you have the skirt,it's not one package...regarding the position, you mean like this or did I fuck it up ? I think the car looks better now.Almost like the skirts.Surely would like to see those Michigan,Ohio and Jersey cars you mention.
Looks tits.As far as good bubble skirt applications, see the Dick Bailey purple 50 Merc built by the Alexander bros and the former yellow and brown Dick Dean chopped 50 Merc owned by George Beluczak. These two bubble skirted mercs were tits. Both were bulit by legends. One had one of the best slant post chops ever and one had the best straight post chop ever.
00 Mack, here is the George Beluczak 50 Merc with wonderful staight post and therefoe extremely long looking doors, and bubble skirts. I know this is not a 53 Buick , but since these came up in the thread I thought it was good to post anyway. (sorry for the poor quality on the last two photo's.)
Clark, I'm shocked. How can that be? It had an "early nailhead" in it. In fact THE EARLIEST nailhead. But I certainly agree with you... until this came along the very next year Just pokin fun at ya about the nailheads. IMHO they're the greatest early V8's made.Hope you got yours straightened out. Let me know if I can help.
Hey, what are those Buicks doing with Mercury trim? Jim, nice to see you float to the surface once in a while. Still got my truck?
