Well, I'm new to hot rods but I have always liked doing projects. So when I saw a '53 F100 for sale I knew I had my next project. I'm hoping to make friends and learn as much as I can to build my truck right.
Welcome, looks like you've got a pretty solid old truck. I showed the picture of your truck to Henrietta the '38 Ford pickup and Ozelle the '55 Ford, both were impressed and gave approving horn honks. One of my cousins, Perry Bailey (who goes by Bill Bailey on the air) has been a radio DJ in your area for many years. Hope you can bring your truck down to the Noccalula Falls show in Gadsden, Fathers Day weekend every year, good show in Piedmont on 3rd Saturday in March, always try to make it to those shows.
Thanks for the info on the events! As for the truck being solid... That is up for discussion... I bought it from a guy who had started to turn it in to a rat rod (blasphemy, I know). The subframe and engine is from a 80's Camaro (some will call this heresy) this is not the direction I wanted to go with the truck. I bought a '55 parts truck (also plan on learning body work with it), and a flathead. I want to make the '53 into a cl***ic hot rod / with a shop truck theme, complete with old school engine, and a nice shop logo based on my initials on the doors. So in my efforts to do right by the '53 I will also be building up the '55. I plan on doing a modern hot rod with the '55, by that I mean modern engine / suspension. I have no illusions that this will not be easy, quick, or cheap... But I still hope to have some thing drivable next year this time... Here is the '55 And the Flathead...
I like the shop truck theme. Henrietta the '38 Ford pickup is lettered as a shop truck for Drake Motor Co., the Ford dealer here from 1928-1956, phone 13, actual phone number back in the day according to the late Miss Margaret Johnson who was the local phone operator back when the operator came on and said "Number, please."
Welcome Odog, I have a running 55' and a enough parts to build a 56'. There is a show next Saturday in Ardmore, TN. Plan to be there. You ought to come if your schedule permits.
Hey Newbee, Welcome to the Hamb, you are a**** plenty of rodders in that area of Bama. Those are some pretty cool pickups! Enjoy the ride brother!
Welcome to the HAMB. I work for 3M, in Greenville S.C. and there is a 3M plant in Decatur. Congrats on your project. There are plenty of great resources here.
