I know that someone has asked this question before. Did the search for about 2hrs and have not found any info. I **** at this computer ****.

What width is the stock rearend in the 36 or what rearend is a good fit.

Plan on using a 7" wide wheel on back with a 225/75-15

I have what I believe is an original 36 rearend. I measured outside of drum to outside of drum (where the face of the wheel touches the drum) at 57" and flange to flange at about 52.75"--accounting for bend in tape caused by banjo. Of course the pics won't line up with exactly where I measured.

  5. The 57-59 Ford p***enger cars have the narrowest nine inch, they fit perfect under the early cars.I think the early 70s Ford Broncos are narrow also.

    Thanks for the info.

Called a few salvage yards for the Explorer rearend. Cheapest was $350. had 204K on it. $750 with 90K.

Found a 72 Bronco rearend $500. I am a tightwad as these seem high to me.

You need to go to a pick and pull or find someone parting on online on CL

TOO BAD you are not closer. They only cost $150/$200 in my area for the Explorer rear. NOW ... the Bronco is a different deal. They usually run $350 or so.

Explorer rear ends are COMMON ... :) But I prefer the 57/58/59 Ford 9 inch for a early Ford. They are fairly common in my area also

Explorer rears in Atl (less rear rotors) are less than 75.00 and just over a 100.00 with.

  15. Look for an explorer on craigslist that they want to get rid of and buy the whole thing. You may be able to use more then the rear.

  16. I don't know where in Missouri you are but if you can find a U Pull it somewhere close to you a tool box will save you a fortune in a late model rearend.

Seeing as how you know that 57" flamge to flange is perfect a tape measure and a couple of straight edges in your tool box may find you a bunch of rears that are close to correct.

Went a picked up a 57 truck 9" ford last night for $200. Found it on CL, I find that you have to search with different wording for the same item to find all the results. I don't think I've found one yet searching for 9". They are still out there.

I put a late 70's Granada 8 inch under my sedan, with reversed 15x7 wheels ,the 235 -75's fit real nice in the wheel openings. Mitch
