I've been watching this thread and have a question regarding zinc plating kits from Eastwood. Does anyone know of an 'alternate" source for both thier Electrolyte solution and the tiny little zinc anode bars they sell? I already have the kit (and a power source) and have used it for years, but need to freshen it up a bit and want some new anodes. They want nearly as much for the solution as the whole kit costs. Was looking for a more cost effective replacement for both components. Thanks...
.............................. Zinc anodes are commonly found at marine supply houses, as "sacrificial anodes", for outboard motor "foots", but the normally aren't "tiny", but you could cut them to the size you need....................As for the purity or zinc concentration of said anodes, that I don't know.
Yes, I tried an anode "rod" and it works fine, only difference is the final finish isn't as bright, probably due to the make up of a sacrificial anode as opposed to one meant for bright plating. I imagine the metal ratios are different; but I don't know what they are. Thanks
