Does anyone make an AC with no heat?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by oldfart, Aug 2, 2011.

  1. I'd like to put AC in my 51 Chevy Sedan Delivery but living in Florida,I don't need heat or defrost.
Does any reputable company make an AC kit w/out heat & defrost?

There are swamp coolers for small aircraft that could be placed in the trunk and ducted to the cabin. Fill it with ice every so often and go.

You can order VintageAir universal units without heat or defrost.

Now some advice, just order it with heat and defrost, the money saved would be minimal and it is always better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Correct...you don't need to run hoses and hook up the heater...it works fine without it...and if you ever decide to sell it, the winter climate buyers will see that as a plus.

Just buy an electric fan and take a cooler and put a block of ice in it . Then have the fan blow across the ice block . That was an old way to cool down back in the 1950's !
Just a Poor Mans A/C but works !

How about the old 65 ford mustang under dash style air only units. I think they are avalable re-pop through the usuall Mustang resto places.

Wow, that's to bad, I purchased a underdash unit (a/c only) from them close to 12 years ago and they treated me really well. Maybe they have new owners or management since I dealt w/ them?

Was it the product or the people that gave you problems?

Have you ever thought about the re-sale value without heat?

Almost 99% of the underdash units are cool only. Vintage and Cl***ic air are the best in my opinion. Cl***ic will also refurbish an old unit for you so it looks correct and has modern guts.

I just completed my install of a Southern Air Super Frost system. It is one of the most affordable systems out there. Since I do not drive my truck in the Ohio Winter I simply didnt hook up the Hot Water lines.

I shopped all the vendors and saw their displays at the shows. Southern Hotrods has done me right for the right price.

And if and when the time comes that you decide to sell it the heat and defrost might be a plus. And they can come in handy if you ever decide to take a road trip up north or out west in cooler weather.

Up here in Wisconsin this summer, it's so humid that at 6:30 AM, it's over 80 degrees with 90 to 100% humidity when I drive to work and I have to use the defroster to keep the outside of the windows from fogging up.
