Hi, name is James from Melbourne, Australia. Been lurking for a while and finally joined. Currently have no HAMB specific cars but am currently investigating importing one from the USA or purchasing one already landed in Oz. Spent way too long with company cars and playing with racecars prior to this but now my priorities have changed. Am looking for a Ford / Mercury with a Flathead or a Y-Block and am more leaning towards the Flathead cause the tradition of them interests me. This will also be my daily too when it arrives as there is nothing that picks your morning up like the sound of V8 burbling along as you cruise to work. I am sure as I get closer to the purchase, I will be shooting some questions the forum's way but seeing as most things so far I have wanted to know have already been answered, I might just be lurking in the background using the search function. Regards, James
Welcome James. Make sure to check out the below link at some stage. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?groupid=102
Welcome James, You will spend many hours on here,a lot of infomation, and a fair amount of humour. The idea of driving your hotrod everyday is onething the reality, I would suggest is something else. Melbournes traffick is kaos at the best, everyone is out to get you.cheers David
Thanks for the responses guys. I have already lost many hours of my life on this site, have never seen so much info and great cars. Is what swayed me to getting something pre'65 and in the traditional style. I was originally looking at late 60's / early 70's Lincoln's and Cadillac's, which I still like but one of those will be in the future when I can afford to have multiple cars and garages (very long ones at that) to house them, as for now the garage I have houses the Falcon Panelvan that is getting fixed up and what ever I end up purchasing in the next few months. got a 32, I am lucky in that my commute is not in the worst of the Melbourne traffic, I get to avoid the Westgate and instead take the back roads to get to Newport via Altona with very little traffic. Is one reason I was able to convince the wife that this was a viable plan. However, i am still surprised that she approved this plan, seeing it involves selling her car and she taking over the driving of the Falcon Family Wagon. Regards, James
hey man, welcome to the hamb from castlemaine victoria, stick with your flatty idea, i imported a 50 ford coupe from texas, check out my thread, hopefully it makes u still want a 50's car, i drove it around for a few weeks once registered before starting the build and the flatty ran like a dream and never got hot or broke down. des
Des, sounds exactly like what I am looking to do, have inquired about a couple of early 50's Fords to import but am just waiting to see what our dollar is going to do before taking the plunge of getting them shipped. Regards, James
