Merc front clip on a Ranchero???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by XxStrait-EdgexX, Jul 30, 2011.

  1. So Ive had this idea ever since I saw someone stick an edsel clip on a 57-59 ranchero. Does anyone have any pics or even seen a late 50's merc clip on a ranchero??

    Thanks.

  2. Here's a Mercury "Merchero" Not sure if this was a custom or maybe a flower car. Pretty cool regardless

I dont think a merc front clip will bolt on a ranchero since its a totally different body,it would probably be easier to make a Merc wagon into a ranchero.

That's correct, the Mercury clip won't swap, probably why you don't see it done. Would look nice though, I like the one above. You can tell that one was based on a Mercury and not a Ranchero.

  5. How about a Meteor Ranchero?

I have seen the "Merchero" in post #2 in person and have talked to the owner at length, but it has been some time ago. I believe that car is built from a ranchero with the Merc parts cleverly crafted and added to it to create the unbelievable illusion. Bad *** looking car IMO!! Even the dash is Merc, as is the steering wheel. This (and the chevy fleetline pics above) shows anything is possible....you just gotta have some imagination and skilled hands.

Below is a stock '57 Merc. You can see the tops of the fenders are close ,but (to me or maybe it's the angle) not exactly the same as the "Merchero". The rest is just clever sheetmetal magic......If anybody knows more info on this fantastic Phantom, please chime in.

That "Merchero" was built by Gary Minor in San Leandro, CA. a whole bunch of years age out of a two door wagon. Still building and driving.

Is it built from a 2 door hardtop Merc wagon with a Ranchero roof modified to fit?

...similar, but very different. But, ..it is a Merc morphed onto a truck. Anyway, I like it.

I saw it done on a falcon / comet body looked cool

  17. So Im wrong in thinking that Mercury had a body exactly like the same year fairlane??? All of Merc's body styles were on a larger platform??? I coulda swore Ford, Edsel, and Mercury shared 1 bodystyle platform.....

57 Fords had two platforms, Mercurys were different. Edsel had two platforms also. Check the wheelbase specs. By the way I drive a 79 Ranchero with a Tbird front clip and all the extra trim. Just sold my 58 Edsel sedan delivery. 58 Edsel wagon with a 57 ford delivery rear body clip. Yes the 57 was totalled or I might have had second thoughts.
