Anybody using the weiand 2x4 intake with 2 holley 390 carbs. I was putting my intake and carbs on but the distributor is in the way. 354 Hemi, weiand 2x4 intake, 2 holley 390 carbs, and mopar performance distributor. Not enough room, what to do? any help or ideas? Thanx
George, has anyone run the Holleys sideways for that application do you know? Do you ever come down our way For Turkey Rod Run, I would like to say hello if you do, TR
What George said. I have the same thing, only with Joe Hunt Vertex magneto. That Weiand intake was made for Carter WCFBs or Rochesters. (they were short, so thank the Carter people for the AFB design!)
Many years back we used Holleys in line but had to make some 'adjustments' in/on the manifold. Now, side mounts would look pretty cool...hhhmm. .
Got you thinking huh............. I agree they would look just right sideways on the little Elephant wouldn't you say?
Absolutely Mike, I seem to remember what your speaking of. They just look mean turned sideways, and jetting/power valves are a heck of a lot easier too!!
I got the offset spacers but the carbs will not go back far enough due to the dist. I also thought of sideways but that will not work either, carb is as wide as long. I know somebody has done this but I don't know what they did differently than me. I just need to find that person. I may have to call Bob next week.
You may be able to raise them up, Spacers? I have Carters on mine, I know my friend tried Holleys and then switched to Carter's.
I was originally going to use a tunnel ram but decided I wanted to keep everything under the hood. And your right, it probablly would take a 6" spacer to clear the dist. I'm thinking I should have just got the tunnel ram and threw out the hood.
Carter used to make 400s, even matched pairs for 2X4s, they would fit nicely, or fiddle with a couple 500 edelbrocks.
The key word here that Mr. Waters is using is " offset ". You would not need so much to just raise the carbs as to raise them slightly and also move them foward away from the distributor. TR
I have the offset adaptors, they move the carbs away from center to keep them apart from each other. The back one moves back a 1/2", and about an inch into the dist..Even with out the offset I'm still about 1/2" from clearing. I was thinking about a vertex, but would like to know if it would clear before I spent the money.
Sir, I'm not trying to be a smart a$$ here by asking this. Sometimes the simpliest things get overlooked. Is the bolt pattern and offset symetrical? By that can you turn it 180 degrees and favor the lateral offset more to one end than the other, or would the offset remain the same. Thank you, TR.
I'm also thinking about with the smaller single feed vacuum carbs like the 390cfm/8007 or the 465cfm/1848. These carbs have neither a metering block or even a metering plate and are about a 1/2" plus in length shorter than a similiar carb with a metering block/metering plate. This might be what you need to clear, a pair of these # carbs together with the offset plate. TR
I am using the 8007's, with out the offset the carbs will not bolt to this manifold. You can see from the picture that even with the front carb moved forward and the rear carb moved back there is very little room between the carbs. Hot heads sells these adaptors just so you can use the holleys on this intake, I just do't know what they do about the distributor being in the way. I'll have to take some pics of my dilema. I do appriciate the input from all. Thanx.
I got my answer - for anyone who wants to run 2-390 holley carbs on a weiand intake (Hemi) you will need to raise the carbs aprox. 2" to clear the dist., and use 1/2" offset adaptors. In my opinion it would be easier to use a tunnel ram. I am going to use Edelbrocks because I don't have the hood clearance. Maybe this will help the next guy (or gal). Thanx
