I want to put a BB ford or chevy in a 56 F100 with a stock front clip-
Whats easy and is a motor mount kit available??

    Thanks for any tips

  2. Trans-Dapt makes swap mounts for the BBC and both BBFs (FE & 385); they also make trans crossmembers for Chevrolet & Ford automatics. Both swaps have been done many times and are fairly easy; Sanderson makes headers for both, and Patriot has some headers that may work as well.

You can use a tubular crossmember from an early '60's Galaxie, fits in there great, and lets you use factory engine mounts with an FE, Y-block or small-block- that's what I had in my '55 F100, worked great

Check with Mid Fifties, they'll have everything you need for this. And anything else you might need.

Sure you do, the pistons go up & down, and the crank goes round 'n round, and you have a brain. If you know a little about engines in general, you can work on any of them with just a little research and reference materials, and you learn something new in the process. The SBF is very easy to work on, extremely dependable, very torquey, inexpensive to build, considerably lighter than a SBC, and the distributor's in the front where it belongs- different combos like a 289/302 with a C4 auto or AOD, 351W with the same trannies or a sm blk C6, or a really sweet setup that my buddy has in his '56 F100, the 5.0 HO/AOD auto, which is stone reliable with EFI, can be hotrodded forever (many Fox Mustangs run well down in the 10's with pretty stock 5.0 shortblocks), and his looks sweet with all the aluminum parts polished/chromed. Lots of old-style hopup stuff available for the older carbureted engines as well, 2x4, 3x2, 1x4 highrise, whatever. Need help? Just ask- but don't put a cheapo Chebbie in there because you "don't know"- you CAN know, and then you WILL know

Don't know where you're located, I have a 351W, two 302's, and three 289's right now, and built C4 and small-block C6's out in the shop right now. But they're everywhere, and there are forums and books about SBF's just like anything else, mounts, headers, all that stuff is available. Send me a message, help is available

I live outside Chicago. First my truck is a mess , rotted roof, bent fenders,no interior, no motor, not a good resto canidate. I like metal work though and it will be alot of work but FUN. That being said
What Ford's would have a 351W carburated? Model years?
What transmission would work with the 351W that has overdrive?

    Bigalow1,
Don't sell the Ford power short. The FE's are real power house engines. The 351 Cleveland is another that is no slouch. If you have a '56 why not look for a 340 or 362 Yblock. They shoe horn right in the mountings you have. The power potential form a properly prepared Y block will amaze you. Look at the site, www.yblockguy.com The secret with them is in the heads and if you can get those setup right it will be a very fast pickup for a lot less money.

I dropped a 429/C6 combo in my 55 using engine and trans crossmembers from Mid-Fifty. Everything fit nicely.

Where do you find a 429?

I am welding in a new front frame section from a donor car. My neighbor gave me good deal on the car and the track width is REAL close. Disc brakes and heavy duty dprings plus a steering upgrade. I was thinking about rebuilding old unit but looking forward to challenge of aligning the front suspension.

    Thanks-

I've got a '53 F100 with a 302 (5.0L) and an AOD out of an '89 mustang. It scoots pretty good and the gas milage ain't too shabby with that combo. Going to swap a Jag IFS under it this winter to pick up better handling/steering and brakes. Fits like a glove with four bolt mounts or direct welding. No frame cutting! $175 at the local scrap yard. Search Jag IFS and you find lots of info.

  19. 429s are found in the larger Ford passenger cars from '68-'73...Torino, LTD, Montego, Thunderbird, etc. Mustangs as well, but it's not likely you'll find one intact in a Mustang in a salvage yard.

There are C6 cases that fit the FE engines, like the 390. Keep in mind that the bellhousing bolt pattern for a 390 is completely different than the pattern for a 429/460. There are C6 cases for the 429/460 as well. (and there are also C6 cases for the 289/302/351W/351C too.)

FE C6 cases are fairly easy to find, but many of them are from early '70s Ford pickups, and have weird tailshafts with bolt-on flanges for the driveshaft...you don't want a truck case, and it's expensive to convert one over to the car style of case/tailshaft with a slip yoke.

Had no luck with jag, volare, magnum, dakota needs a crossmember kit
Nieghbor had a donor car for $20.00 and 5 cases of beer!
The donor Car suspension is in good shape.

I want to put a ford motor in and i am listening to all the rec's
A little gas mileage would be nice for a change!!!!!
I am leaning towards a 351W .I can find them for sale for one thing. I hear its pretty stout and i would like an AOD trans to go with it?

No. I am a little gun shy from another thread getting a little sideways on that subject. I will post pics this weekend of everything in my album. I went from 0 to knowing a little something about F100's in no time flat!!

I need help with Ford motor selection and dont want to contaminate this thread :)

An 80's or 90's Mustang engine does sound interesting. Performance, available, decent on gas. I don't think the late 80's or early 90's 302 engines are to complicated electronically????? I might even be able to use the rear end?
I am going to check prices at the boneyard Thurs
It might be fun to put a Manual trans in??? HMMMM???
