Things can grow on you, like warts. That car would look awesome with a careful grafting of the original deck. Don't restore the car, just put the deck back and patina it in to match the condition of the car.

Yep, thats part of the overall plan:D

  10. I think Marcy is responsible for 90% of this little Roadsters moves... She's a Highway Haulin gal for sure!

This car hasn't made the full circle until Povertyflats has it in his garage and I have another chance to buy it from him... like it was intended!;)

This Roadster haunts me... I've loved it since I sat in it in Wisconsin!

Again... leave the box on it... a "TRUE" survivor "Custom Pick Up" tells us more about History than another restored Roadster!

P.s. .... that car has had more ass on it than a public toilet seat!

I know it looks cool with the old bed in it, but if it was yours, would you really leave it that way?

Hey I agree it looked cool when Povertyflats had it, heck I tried to figure a way to buy it then as well. However, putting the lid back on and matching the current paint condition and converting it to a AV8 has got to be a better option!

  13. To answer your question Honestly... Yes!

There aren't many cars that I wouldn't hack up into a hot rod but this would be one where I'd leave the body alone.

But it is your car and you are free to do what you want with it.

Here's a couple of tough questions...

Did you buy this car as a Body donor to build a Hot Rod?

Or did you buy the car because of it's uniqueness and historical quirkiness?

It's kind of like Povertyflats buying the "Limo" (Clown Car) to restore it back to factory original... it will loose all it's history and all of it's unique quirkiness!

Hot Rod material is available all over the joint... if that's your intention... that Roadster is unique..., has "provenance" and is admired all over the world the way it sits.

Those are tough questions... aren't they????:)

If I owned that car I'd leave the body alone and have more fun than a persons allowed to have (with all the clothes on)!

And if you're itching for a fire breathing "Bad Ass Hot Rod"... there's plenty of donors that can be had at a reasonable price!

    Just in my Honest Opinion...

But doing the body changes is like giving a 70 year old Grandma a "Boob" job... might look good but everyone will know it's fake! Hahaha...

Crap did I go too far???? Sorry...

You know what I mean... but really it's your car... and the main thing is to enjoy it the way you envisioned it... kind of like the guy that modified it in the first place!

Can you imagine the comments that guy got????

You did what to that perfectly good Roadster?

You should've just bought a truck.... hahaha.... it'll never end!

I thought I remembered seeing one like that on here a couple years ago, but I don't recall it being in quite as good of shape as this one. If I remember the story right, they converted stuff like this back in World War II because of the gas rationing, and there was a difference in classification between cars and trucks, so this was the easiest way to qualify as a truck. The last one I saw on here still had the original ration sticker in the windshield.

Anybody remember what I'm talking about, or know more about the ration thing?

  17. You are dead on! I remember that thread but it wasn't this car but another Roadster.

Farmers were given extra ration tickets for their work vehicles and everything became a work vehicle!

Zenors coupe was converted to a truck and eventually ended up as an Ice fishing truck.

I had a dump truck from a farm that started out as a touring!

That was a real butcher job and it would flip the front end up into the air when you released the bucket!

I Heard that the farmer would load all the kids in the truck and head into town because it was the only vehicle with gas!

    Here's the photo!

I like your plans and it should look good when you're done and I believe it's in good hands... that's all that matters!

Actually, I look at as it already had the "Boob job" and I an removing the implants!
I see what you are saying but a whole lot of coupes and roadsters got this treatment back during the war so they could buy gas to drive them. It was still as done when povertyflats had it and the HAMBer I bought it from has made a bunch changes to what it is now. The car needs a lot of work where you can't see anyway so I just figured taking it to the next level was a natural thing from here. Remember it is a FACTORY 31 Roadster, that someone hacked up 60 years ago so they could buy gas!

  22. if you were to add a domed trunk top that split down the middle
so when open it would have taller sides
    add a split tail gate
finding the old wood should be ez enuf

and having old metal strapping should complete the packaage

Can't quite picture that, But I am 90% sure it will get put back to a stock roadster, body wise. I have all the parts to go back stock. I admit it is kinda cool the way it is but I can't see me actually driving it that way for long. Its seems more of a novalty thing. I know changing it back will disapoint some, but it is my car!:D

Well said. It will look so classy, you won't cast it aside like all the others have.

    Really a cool looking roadster.

  26. Make a little trailer out of the bed to tow behind.

  27. Im 50/50 on losing the bed, but thought at the start of this thread, if i had it, an AV8 would be the way to go.
    Very cool car.

  28. Nice..if it were mine, I wouldn't be able to get that bed conversion off fast enough. Sure it is unique, but personally I'll take good looks over unique any day. Enjoy it, it is cool either way.

I would not worry about losing the "history" of a farmer's hack job........make it a nice car! I approve and I used to own the dang thing! Just don't set the car on fire !!! :D
