A lot of the ads you see without phone numbers are only phishing for email addresses for marketing. I hate it too!
i do not have the hudson motor or ******, some worthless P.O.S stole my 3 hudson motors & 4 trannies, plus a pontiac 400 W/****** & big jimmy 6,plus all the exta parts i had saved up over the years.right after my grandpa died.[where i had my car stored]
I've had that same problem a few times. Someone posts an ad, you response nd then they never follow up with you
It seems in my case ,all the good buys and all the deals happen when you least expect them. When I walk around in a old man blind stupor they seem to fall out of the sky. When I try real hard to find something there is nothing out there. Just act like you don't care and see if something pops up. By the way the last time i was looking hard for some items(wide five stuff) I put a wanted on C/L and found them quickly. Best of luck.
Send your $ to me and let me try to spend it. I will promptly write you a situational report outlining my findings.
99.9% of craigslist adds are scams or you are dealing with a crack pot mainly because it is free...don't get me wrong there are some legit adds/deals and I use it and surf it daily.
Returned calls!?!?! Look at it, PAY for it, go back and GET it...preferably taking it when you leave the first time. I go to buy something I go prepared. I just BUY it and take it home...thats it. Period. I don't understand this waiting for returned calls at all...
man aint nothing wrong with your money. come to my house and ill sell you all kinds of ford big blocks, hell ill even help you load them. i need the floor space.
OK, I'd like to present another possibility to make your negotiating more successful. And I don't know you but I want to perhaps help you and others who may be reading this post. Try changing your demeanor when you enter into negotiations. Here are some things I try to do: Remember that the seller is a human being. Treat that person with respect. Even if he / she may be a ****head. Remember that they have a vested interst in completing the sale on the best possible terms for HIM. Be ready to justify your offer if it is lower than his asking price but don't be insulting or condescending in your comments. Get cleaned up. Don't wear greasey work clothes. If you have potentially offensive tattoos and piercings be aware that the seller may not be that anxious to do business with you. Cover them up or accept the fact that they may negatively impact your bargaining power. Likewise with offensive language. If the seller happens to be a born-again Fundamentalist Christian or from an ethnic culture different from yours then filling your language with "mf's" and racial innuendos could turn them off to cutting you a deal. Your posts include the phrases WTF and POS. That kind of talk turns some folks off. Try to make the deal as smooth as possible for him. If you are buying a non-running project car have your tow bar ready or your trailer parked nearby to pay and go. "Cash and Carry" will let the seller know you are serious. If you buy it try to take it with you, especially if you have negotiated down to a lower price. You may return later only to find that the seller got tired of waiting and sold it to somebody else who offered them a better deal. Been there. Don't make derrogatory comments about his neighborhood, his brand of car, his dog, etc. In short, I try to act like the perfect gentleman. You don't have to, but just understand that from a human nature standpoint, you are unlikely to come away with the best possible deal - or any deal at all. Good luck to you in your future transactions. 6re6
I've found motors at the local tow yards and wrecking yards. Good prices too. I found a 350, new forged pistons, rods, crank and ported heads in the "Recycler" paper. The rotating ***embly had been balanced and the block was already bored. It was $500. I micro polished the crank and had the block line honed.
I got a 390 that I was going to use but I can probably get by without it. I will no doubt have another engine when the time comes. It was sold to me as a runner 3 years ago. Its been on a stand inside since then. Bring your dirty money and take it home if you want it. As far as an answer to your question you no doubt are emailing and calling and some one else was quicker on the draw than you. The seller just doesn't see any reason to contact you and say its already gone sorry. I mean hell if he gets 300 hits, that's a lot of its already gone isn't it. Hackerbuilt most C/R ads don't give an adress you either get an e-mail addy or sometimes you get lucky and get a phone number. The phone number isn't always the correct one either. Here is an example: The wife found some 100 year old tung and groove bead board out of an old victorian tear down. She wanted it. I called the number left a message and got no response. I guess she really wanted it becaue she asked me to call again. So I did and still no response. Then she started bothering me about it, something she seldom does. So I was pissed off and called the number every half hour for a day. I got a response all right. The fella called me, I answered and he said, "STOP CALLING F...ING CALLING ME G..DAMNIT I DON'T HAVE NO F...ING BEAD BOARD" so I waited about 10 minutres and called him again and said, " sorry" and hung up. There are scammers on C-list and then there are also desparate people who sometimes don't have a lot on the ball. Once in a while you find a deal. That is how we bought the furnace and S/C for out retirement house. Its a **** shoot.
My take on CL dealing: If you are very interested in something, buy it on the spot for cash. Be prepared to take it with you and have the means to cart it off. I've taken looks at OT stuff and have come back later if I was on my way home from work, but I don't let a seller hanging, ever. Bob
The problem isn't your money, it's Craigslist. I placed a wanted ad for a door for my '55 Chevy truck. One guy responded that he had what I needed. I told him I'd take it - didn't even attempt to get him down on the price. It took over THREE months from the time he first contacted me to actually get the deal done, and he only lived 45 minutes away. As Jim Morrison said, "people are strange".
I tried to buy a running model a ch***is with fenders, roadster cowl and truck bed. It had no doors. I really wanted a RPU, and i thought his price was fair. I test drove it and everything told him i would give him what he was asking. It was raining out so we decided to wait till the next day. Then he wouldnt answer calls or e-mails. I finnaly got ahold of his grandson and he told me that his grandpa figured since i offered the asking price it must be worth more. I bought a better one off the hamb a week later. The guy sold the thing over a year later for way less. It can be difficult to deal with people off craigslist. You gotta take it all with a grain of salt and give up the cash and get outta there.
