I agree 100%. The only thing I fear more than snakes are sharks, but since I don't swim in the ocean the sharks are not a problem. I have to kill my snakes with a high-powered rifle because by the time I quit running I can't reach them with a shovel!

    Yep...

    :D

But you didn't see any mice did you?

But being all "I hate snakes "is funny to me, educate yourself to be able to identify them. I'm all for killing a copperhead, but I let the kings, rat, and black snakes go. They take care of the mice and rats...

  3. I open up my shop on warm nights and it cools down nicely. Came home after work two Fridays ago and opened up the front and then the door to the back room.........about an 18 inch Prairie rattler coiled and pissed 3 feet from me. Found the ice screaper and did him in REAL FAST. That ****s scary, we have a 4 year old that play in the shop with me, thing could have easily snuck into the kitchen!

If they're not poisonous don't kill them... just pick them up with a long broom handle and a glove, put them in a box or pillow case and ride them out into the country and set them free. Snakes are fascinating creatures.

older guy that helped me with racecar told me how to tell the differance between a good snake and a bad snake.
good snake has 2 set of tire tracks on it,all the rest are bad snakes!!

When I was building my T, a friend and I went to a local yard to pull a dash out of a 38 Plymouth. My buddy crawled underneath the dash to disconnect whatever was left only to have a huge black snake hanging down and staring him in the eye. For being a heavier set, nonathletic kind of guy... I have never seen somebody run so fast!

i agree, don't kill non poisonous snakes! i can understand being startled by the sight of a snake i was on my creeper under a car in my barn and a very large black snake slithered up to me, although i'm not afraid of snakes it is a different story when your laying on your back looking eye to eye with the thing. [i screamed like a girl] then slid out flung him into the bushes and haven't seen him since.

  11. Up here on Vancouver island we don't have any venomous snakes, just the garter variety, but my wife and I have a place in the mountains on Lake Shasta in California where my projects 'wait their turn'. After I bring them home and start stripping them down I find a lot of these in them.... We sometimes take our dog along as well, a 110 lb Akita who loves to shove his nose in any hole he thinks might have something in it. I notice the local vet hospitals advertise 'rattlesnake anti-venom for pets'. If he finds one he's likely gonna get it in the face, maybe I should pick some up.

Snakes are on the top of my list of most disliked, and deadly visiters we get around our home and shop.

But unfortunatly they were here long before us, so we are intruding on there space.

Check out the link to understand why Australians are not fond of snakes

Yeah, I'm with you ZMan.;) I'd kill a copperhead any day, but I haven't seen one in nearly 10 years, as they try to stay clear of people. Wear leather gloves if you have to restack wood, lumber, etc., and don't stick your hands where you can't SEE.

But here in Ohio, I leave blacksnakes and ratsnakes to do what they were put on earth TO do: eat rodents. If people kill every snake they see, well, mice can birth a new litter several times in a single year, so their numbers shoot up exponentially without snakes present. Hawks and falcons just can't take up the slack.:p

Holy sheep ****... you guys must have invented snakes. It's hard to believe they are so much more toxic than a generic rattler. Gary

Al that's funny but thanks for the warning. I live here in Middle TN and had thoughts of going into my crawl space. Those thoughts are gone. Here is life in West Tennessee (Memphis).

  21. We have many of your snakes on display locally at Reptile Gardens which thankfully also has the largest collection of anti venom in North America, for your snakes as well as our rattlers...........still do not want to get bit!

I feel the same about snakes as I feel about my Mother-in-law. I don't hate them, I just don't like being around them.

If they would just let you know they were there. They don't scare me, but they do startle the heck out of me. They always just seem to appear from nowhere. On a related note, I have read that rattle snakes are not rattling as much, because those that do get killed by us. Natural selection is makeing them quieter, so don't count on a warning.

I read Bill Bryson's book on Aus. pretty funny. He talks about how poiseness your snakes and various bugs are,

So poiseness and fast acting, he claims, that many folks last words are
    " Hey is that a sna":D
