Hello HAMB, I'll be going on a little vacation to Detroit Michigan next week and want to know what your top 5 (10?) places to visit are. I'll have a few days in the surrounding area and am getting bogged down by all the internet search results. I'll definitely hit the Henry Ford, but which places have the best collections? Any and all suggestions appreciated, thanks.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the thought and links. I just want to maximize the trip and get my fill of fine vehicles.

The only bummer is most of the cars @ the Hnery Ford arent curently on display. They are renovating the auto section of the museum. Still worth a visit though. There is also a cool Hudson, kaiser museum in Ypsilanti to check out

........ Almost forgot... Ford World HQ in Dearborn is having an all Ford car show and swap meet on their parking lot on the 7th of August. (next week on Sunday) It's only a couple of bucks to get in as a spectator.. Plenty of FE eye candy from the grand ol' dayz... :D Hope it ain't too hot out!! I got baked last year.. :(

You used to be able to visit the engineering lab across from the Henry Ford Museum, The steel mill and the ***ymbly line but you needed reservations in advance for the last two. Dont forget Greenfield Village and Fairlane, Henry Ford's home

Buy a large chip for the digital camera. Will be money well spent.

For Automotive overload drive over to Kalamazoo to the Gilmore Car museum. It has every kind of car you can think of . I got a free ride in a 12 cylinder Packard roadster and Model T while there. It was one of the best days I ever had.

My Aussie pals went to The Henry Ford yesterday and were alittle disappointed because of the displays under destruction. They then headed over to the Chrysler Museum and really, really enjoyed that. Tonight, Thursday is the big cruz night in Depot Town which is where the Hudson Museum is located adn eat a burger at Sidetracks if you go.

Much of the existing display has been unchanged since the late '80s and was due for some freshening up. But, too bad you came when it was being done.

If you remember the 1940 Olds display ch***is replica hanging from the ceiling, my guys and I made that.
