Windshield wipers at the bottom of the window indicates '37.

numbers on the frame say its a 38 and the fenders are 38 dont have the ridge like the 37's do.

38 and 39 Fords still have the wipers above the windshield.
1940 was the first year for the wipers to be on the cowl. :D

The one hole above the drivers side is not from a bullet. I have seen pics with one wiper. The things sticking out at the bottom do not turn like a wiper.

I believe the "things" sticking out at the bottom of the windshield push the the windshield open. It was hinged at the top.

Look inside the car for the hood sides, that will tell you if it is a 37 or a 38 standard. You can see the hood top is flat at the front, not pointy, so it is not a 38 deluxe.

You need to ask Bob Drake. He might be able to tell you 5 or 10 diffrent way to tell the diffrence, but the best I can do is 37 or 38 standard. Either way, they are both cool.

Nice body, by the way. -Abone.

There are no hood sides. The hood is from a 37 but the paint that is on it is not the same as on the car. My uncle said it came from somewhere else.

No...wait a minute...If you look reeeeal close at a 37 fender, the area between the headlight and the grille kind of swoops up to meet the grille/hood side area, a 38 does not.

The grille edge of a 38 fender is one smooth arc with no little whuup thingy, like yours.

38 Ford Standard coupe. Neat little cars. Congratulations.

Your uncle was probably going on what somebody else told him, or the ***le could have been mistaken at some time. Either way, it's a great looking, SOLID car that a lot of other guys would love to have!!

Where would be the best place to find a grille? I have looked online and no one has one. allso were they 2 tone? The fenders are black and the body is green with a yellow pen stipe.

It is a '38 Standard coupe, no doubt about it. And......I dig that early 70s Vermeer 605A Round Bailer sitting next to the '38. Any hot rod farmer would just love to get his mits on that one, lower it, flame it, and pull it behind his 8N.

Coupes are not for chickens. Get it up off the ground. Get it inside. Open a can of #3 Elbow Grease and apply liberally, along with some Green Backs. Parts can be had on the HAMB (if your nose doesn't bleed from some of the prices), from swap meets and companies too numerous to mention. Keep after it until finished and drive the wheels off it. Old School Rules.

What's the story on the roof being cut out with a can opener?? Looks like it will take another coupe roof section to repair. Well worth the effort to do though. Best wishes on this project.

Yes it has a trunk lid. And has the big round thing with the stainless on it. I have found one rear fender allready and think I might have another. Allso found a door and will be looking for another and a hood. The drip rails are good on both sides. This car sat in a chicken bar forever that is why its not to big of a rust bucket.

My mistake. I got the years backwards. I shoulda known better as I just bought a Newport wiper kit for my son back east. It's going on a late '37, with wipers above the windshield.

My uncle had allways thought it was a 37. Over the years he had gotten tons of parts, doors, grille, hood, hood sides, and more stuff. The barn they were in burnt a few years ago and nothing was left but junk.

The hole in the roof is so you could stand up and shoot rabbits at night...
I inquired about a hole cut in the roof of a 37 Chevy sedan delivery once, that's what the farmer said they did after they sat around drinking one night, torch a hole and go rabbit hunting! So who know why the cut the roof, too bad but fixable.

Would not put that past some of the people around here. I have seen some things done to old cars and truck that you wonder what the hell they were thinking.

I know the deluxe had stainless, but good luck finding a set. Also the rear fenders are 38 for sure, The 38 coupe rears are specific to only 38 coupes even the sedans are different.

I have seen some standards that had stainless. I was told that the 38 coupe rear fenders are the same as some of the sedans. There are no holes on the car for stainless.
