hi all, working on a '59 caddy rag top, the top needs some adjusting, and i have some working knowledge of top adjustment, but need some help/advice.

issue, with top in the 'up' position, it doesn't quite mate up to the header, it's fairly level, but the top locating pins are just shy of going into the holes in the header, it's like the whole top frame needs to move forward a bit. to me, it looks as though there are 3 bolts per side that hold the top frame to the car in the quarter panel wells, but without the seat and interior quarter trim removed, i can't see enough of it to be sure. also, to note, the top fabric is not overly tight, that is to say, it's not a case of the fabric restricting frame movement [if that makes sense]

i thought i'd ask before i removed the seat and trim.

so to recap, top sits pretty level, will rest on header, but looks like the whole thing needs to shift forward to get pins in the holes in the header so it can be latched, hope that makes sense.

any help is much appreciated, thanks.

Looking through the service manual, says the adjustment for the guide studs is in the corner braces near the front of the top. but you have to remove some of the weatherstrip on the sides to get to the screws. if you adjust the hinges that mount to the quarter panels under the trim, that will also adjust the gap to the windows. don't have a convertible, so I can't say firsthand.

took pics of the service manual procedure for aligning, but cant get them to upload. send me a pm with your email if your interested.
