My sister is the head makeup artist on the Tonight Show. Would love to get out there and meet him someday. She says he drives a different car to work everyday. She took a bunch of photos for me of different cars he has driven in. i'll see if i can get her to send them to me again.

I've met and talked to Jay a number of times. He's the real deal. A total gearhead who just happens to be talented and somewhat wealthy. One time I was at a show at Woodley Park in the Valley and, as usual Jay showed up. He was driving his Stanley Steamer Speedster replica. As you would expect, when he shows up everyone gravitates to him. This is good for me because I shoot photos so I just go the opposite direction from Jay and get some people free shots. Anyway, about an hour after Jay showed up I decide to get some food so I go and stand in line for a hot dog. I'm standing there for a couple of minutes and happen to look over my shoulder and Jay is in line behind me. So I start talking to him about the Stanley. I ask him how fast he's had it up to. He says "85 on the Simi Valley Freeway, and it will probably go faster!" 85 in a car with wooden wheels and rear clincher brakes.

  7. Jay did grow up in Andover M***achusetts. He lived on Lincoln Circle, and my wife lived on Lincoln St. I lived out on River rd. Jay was five years behind us in school. My buddy Jacky Ball lived three houses down from Jay. I remember him when he was 13. Jacky and I had just bought our new motorcycles when we graduated from High School. Jacky got a Triumph 650 Bonneville, and I a 750 Norton Atlas. Jacky would take Jay out for a ride every so often. Even as a young kid he was OK. You know when your 18 how the younger kids are a pain in the ***. Not Jay he was a good kid. Always inquisitive about anything mechanical. By the time all of us went to collage, and the service Jay was working at Mc Donalds. he later moved on to Boston, and worked as a mechanic. He's not just a stand around looker. He's the real deal. If they didn't have the comedy clubs in Boston he wouldn't have ever got his start. He probably would have lived his life as many of you guy do, turning wrenches. A true gear head. The world has been blessed with his presents. How many big time celebs would take car collecting and restoration to the limit that Jay has.
How could you not like a person with his integrity and love for cars.
In my later life it's been a pleasure observing him from a distance, and I hope he has many more years of good health, and many more car projects.
