Looking for some side mirror ideas for my '30 "A" FORDOR....Not sure if I'm sold yet on the PEEP MIRROR or someting different. I would like a mirror mounted on/around the upper hinge...but most of the "hinge" mount mirrors I've seen stick out 8" from the body!..Looks like Mickey Mouse ears on the car.

If anyone has pics of mirrors on MODEL "A's" please post!! Thanks!

Dont have a pic, but you need the length on model a mirror stems to get past the middle bulge in the body. I needed a quick mirror on my A so I bought a peep and all I can see with it is the body.

I run a stock style top hinge mirror and it is much more easy to drive in traffic now being able to actual see something in the mirror. I agree the Peep mirors were not designed for an A sedan.

Look at a pick up mirror. Their made from good steel and you can cut them down to fit. I have a pair on my 5w and they work better than any peep are hinge mount I have tried.

I started with the clamp on peep mirror and recently switched them to the ones that mount on the top hinge. much better....

  6. These are cut down Harley mirrors on a 29.

This shows another Harley mirror that wasn't used, but shows where it goes on the windshield stanchion.

They're a bit larger than the standard round 32 peep mirror, but you can see a lot out of them and they're not obtrusive when looking at the car
    As used on my 32.

They have a good view as seen here.

You can find these mirrors at J&P Cycles.
They have a website and are a good outfit to deal with.

The mirrors have a 3/8" diameter solid steel stalk.
    Chrome plating is excellent.

Cut the stalk down to the length you want and re-thread.
Be careful to run the die on straight.

The mirrors are also adjustable for swivel ball tension.

The mirrors mount to the 32 windshield post.

Note that the mounting swivel is off center and you can gain or lose some height by spinning the mirror 180*
And get a narrow mirror by turing it 90*.

The Model A's and the 32 have 3/8-NF threads so threading the cut-down Harley stalk works well.

With the short stalk, no vibration.

If the side top are what you want but too long...get an original '32-4 pickup (straight) or later (slanted) bracket, forged steel and easy to weld, and make one the size you want. I think the repro ones are cast stuff that would be harder to mess with.
Or rip out the roof cloth and put a mirror from a Hawker Hurricane up there on the header panel!

  9. on my `28 tudor i didn't want to mount a peep mirror to the door top edge or use a hinge mirror because they scratch the paint. i made a bracket out of stainless steel and used the two screws that hold the visor on to mount it. the mirror head is from a 3" peep mirror. these pictures are dark but you should get the idea

    Good ideas! Thank you!

I may have to go with something in between a peep and a truck hinge mount!!

Another quick one....anyone running a full convex mirror instead of just a flat gl*** one on the drivers side?? Or am I asking for trouble? Being that I have a pretty heavy chop...I'd like to make side view vision the best it can be. :)

I did that with a after market hinge mount and if I looked for more than a glance it hurt my eyes ?????????????Could not see that well thru it anyway. two cents

  12. I don't know if the cycle mirrors are available in convex.

The same basic mirror I showed above used to be available in round and probably still is.

I'll have to lay a straight edge on the gl*** of mine.
They have a warning etched into the gl*** proper that things may be closer than they appear.
As well as following cars a ways back are smaller in the side mirrors than they are in the flat windshield mirror.

I've thought of trying a couple of convex stick on mirrors on mine.
You can get pretty small ones and they don't cost much.

I have a pair of these on each of my pickups and they're great for p***ing and especially good for backing into parking spaces to make sure you're centered.

When the roadster top is on and the back window snapped down - which leaves you with a mail-slot rear window - it's a ***** to back into parking spots cuz you can't see jack.

And like you'd think, about the only place I back in is during the Saturday morning donut run.
Takes a couple of shots most times.

The guys enjoy watching, but it's their car that's gonna get banged....:D

What did you end up using for a mirror?
