Projects 1948 F1 rattle can rebuild

Love the truck, and the build, spare parts are the best. appreciate the rattle can work, but for $20 a harbor freight HVLP gun and some rustoleum professional (enamel) you can add hardener and not get all the rock chips. My dad was a rattle can bandit until I bought him a gun and he'll never go back. Just my opinion.
Ive got a similar build planned on a 1963 Impala, spare parts are piling up.

Keep it coming cant wait to see this back on the road.

TRUCK MOVED UNDER IT'S OWN POWER!!!

 

OK, drove it out of the garage. Went to fill up the radiator and discovered the water pump is leaking pretty bad. Couldn't see exactly where the water was coming out as it was under the pump. Looks like too much leakage for a gasket.

When I got the truck it had a cracked thermostat housing. Now I'm thinking maybe it froze? I just hope it's a water pump leak and not a crack in the block from freezing.

So you know what my plan is for today.
Pull apart a bunch of stuff I just put together.

One more and then I gotta go pull a fan shroud and water pump.

 

Love the before and after shots. I need to take more time to do the same and reflect on what was done. Kinda makes you appreciate it more...

Great job. It gives me a lot to think about. I sure hope you can save the six. I'm running a 223/t98 4-speed in my sixty. 3.50 rear gears and Patriot headers and I can keep up with Phoenix traffic just fine.

enjoyed reading this thread! good work! i cant wait to get to work on something of my own. theres an old f1 about 2 miles from my house that was put together a few years back. right now i think the bed is off and the rest is sitting over beside it like they started to try and work on it but never got anywhere. even closer to my house is a '60 (i think) ford truck just sitting in the guys yard. wish they were for sale and i had money lol

 

Does that coil require an external resistor ? (usually they are marked)

 

I really like reading this post. every day or so its got something fresh. You make such good progress. You know when you finish these trucks I'm gonna be kinda sad cause you won't have anything left to post!

 

Unbelievable, man! Fantastic work! I can relate to the "first time it's run/driven in 30-some years"... when I got the '53 running last year was the first time it's seen life since '76 in the old shed behind my grandparents' place.

The great thing about the HAMB is the amount of people on here who just hot rod. Make do or do without. And then they drive the crud out of their cars and trucks. Congrats on a fun project. I'll stay tuned in for more updates.

Also had something to use for a trunk since there's no room in the cab. I've used this for a tool box on a couple different utility trailers. It's some kinda aluminum military container that's water tight and has an O-ring seal. I might get ambitious later and polish it up.

Thats good, beats the hell out of a cracked block or head. How easy is it to find a pump?
BTW that tool box is pretty cool. I've been thinking along similar lines for my 51. Don't wanna go anywhere without a tool box for awhile, but don't want some clunky auto parts store special back there either.

 

Love the rattle can resto. I have done alot of rattle can work over the years and when done right you can't tell it from the high dallar stuff. Great Job!
